Popular Post TxBands:) Posted September 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2019 Attended a Round Rock Rehearsal tonight for a bit, man does this show seem difficult. They march at 180 BPM for the biggest movement of their show, Round Rock shows are always so fast and intense . Think this show has potential to peak late, as of right now I think they'll finish at a modest placement at Austin, around the middle of finals. Excited for this group though, heard some good things . scoobydoo, Nny14 and LeanderMomma 3 Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 I was incredibly impressed watching Paetow this evening. Great commitment by everyone on the field to especially the visual side of the show. Quote
Popular Post Rubisco Posted September 13, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 13, 2019 Cedar Park definitely seems to be bouncing back based on that video. I remember just a few years ago when their guard was super tiny compared to their band. I'm loving the larger (and more accomplished) guard. I'm also loving the energy from the other performers. That's a huge sound that they're producing. I do think it could be a little bit more controlled, especially the low brass players, who are covering up the melody in a few places. But overall I think they're set to have a much better season this year. Speaking of Cedar Park, I noticed a handful of Cedar Park educators popping up on judge lists for several of the upcoming BOA regionals. Actually, I'm noticing a lot of new (or relatively new) names on the lists, many of whom are from Texas. Kevin McNulty, Bob Chreste, Evan VanDoren, Brian Wilt, Mark McGahey, Andy Sealy, Katherine VanDoren, Daniel Cuevas, Kristopher Quaale, Kim Shuttlesworth, John Alstrin, Ryan Brittain, and Donnie Hull. Most of them are judging music. I know I've seen some of these names in the past judging for BOA, but a lot of them seem new to me. Maybe BOA is finally making a push to expand their pool of judges. (Not surprisingly, Austin is the one with the most "veterans" on the panel, which makes sense, given the level of competition at that event.) Overall, I think it's a great thing. I know I'm biased, but I'd much rather have an accomplished Texas educator giving me pointers on my group's music performance than some out-of-state career judge. The top bands in Texas (both marching and especially concert) just sound so much better than the bands elsewhere. Also, I think it's beneficial for these educators' own band programs. It's a great educational and networking opportunity. Of course, I say this now, but I might end up disagreeing with all of their scores. Maybe we'll get some fun surprises this year! SATXBandDad Posted September 13, 2019 Posted September 13, 2019 There's a short excerpt of CTJ’s show on “BOA Moments” on Instagram if you’re curious. Looks like it’s from this past Tuesday’s stadium rehearsal. Quote

They have to tie in the previous show somehow. It’s like saying “why is Darth Vader in Empire Strikes Back when he was in Star Wars?” It ties the story together and allows for the story to continue. DeepEllum Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I think they were just trying to clarify why it sounded similar since some pieces are being reprised, not that he knows everything about the show and program. Quote

LeanderMomma Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 I’m so ready to see these shows in person. I think this season is not only going to be good because it’s a GN year for six of us, but also because of the higher level so many of the Texas bands are now performing at. I know I keep saying it, but I honestly don’t think we have any clue who will win in San Antonio this year. Obviously we never know for sure, but I am thinking this year in particular will be a surprising one. Here are some of my crazy thoughts: Vista Ridge will be at the top half of finals all season long. This show is special. Like GN kind of special. Reminds me of stuff you see there, and not in a typical Texas way. Wish they were going! Cedar Park will be back in finals. This show is fantastic. Grabs you by the throat on the very first note and doesn’t let go. CTJ will be in the top half of everything as well, but will also be talked about across the nation for their style, unique look and fabulous show this season. People who didn’t really know of CTJ before will know now. Hebron may just win every contest they enter this season. EVERY one. (I can’t wait for BOA DFW). I hope they have the visual package to match their incredible sound! FloMo is gonna really have to bring the mojo....and they will. TWHS—they are keeping quiet. I have no clue! Vandy will show us some exciting things we haven’t seen from them before...but they’re still Vandy. In all the best ways. Marcus, Keller and Round Rock...my gut is silent here. I just don’t know what to expect, but oh how I have hope! Bring it, Marcus, Keller and The Rock Band! Cedar Ridge and Hendrickson are rebuilding in my opinion. We will have to wait and see. Can’t wait to see them at football games against Leander the next two weeks! Leander. Y’all, last night I thought I entered another dimension (see what I did there?) and was watching Claudia Taylor. Guys, these kids can DANCE! I mean FO REAL. Y’all just wait for the Britney Spears section. Everyone in the stands is going to want to stand up and shake their booties in this part of the show. So stinkin fun! This show is just so interesting, fast, entertaining and cool. Definitely going to be one that is talked about for a long time. I know Vista Murietta is working really hard on their show this year, but they are going to have to REALLY step up their game to make finals in San Antonio. I’m looking so forward to seeing them! You guys...we say it every year, but wow....THIS SEASON IS ON FIRE! gregorydf01 1 Quote
WoodlandsMom4ever Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 We have barely seen the effects in the last few weeks because we’ve been on the visitors side and can’t get to the other side to see the show. Next week we finally are the home team again! Our guard got their costumes yesterday... and wore them for the first time. We saw the back side of oak ridge’s show last night. Hard to get a good idea of it from there, but it sounded nice (again- from behind) LeanderMomma and gregorydf01 2 Quote
Popular Post LeanderMomma Posted September 14, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 14, 2019 I just can’t do it. I can’t sit on the visitor side at away games! I may be only one of a few wearing Leander shirts on the home side when we play away games but I figure after raising three girls and turning 55 this year, I can do what I want. gregorydf01, Dog885, WoodlandsMom4ever and 1 other 4 Quote

gregorydf01 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 At away games and chaperoning I try to "sneak" around to the home side and watch the shows, don't always get over in time but most of the time I do! As long as I am back in the visitor stands before the band get's back I can still get my job's done and see the show from the front side! LeanderMomma and WoodlandsMom4ever 2 Quote
justabandkid94 Posted September 14, 2019 Posted September 14, 2019 Checked out that CTJ clip on Instagram. I love the way that the re-used music is written... it starts off as it did in 2017, and fools you into thinking it’ll keep being the exact same, and then morphs into completely different rhythms. Cool stuff. For me, at least, the program has the most distinct sound in BOA. I think I could be blindfolded, played fresh music and still know it’s them. Excited for the rest of the show! Anyone else see that earlier clip of the opener with the woodwinds hauling absolute a**? It’s gonna be a monstrous season CTJBandPops 1 Quote
principalagent Posted September 15, 2019 Posted September 15, 2019 Just caught Carmel on a live stream. It’s their world and we’re just living in it. They’re getting #6 in November unless Avon brings something special or Hebron truly brings some magic. Quote

Interesting.... my son and I was there on the 50 and watched them live. We said the Eagle was flying to Texas this year after their show. Lots of long notes and another soloist, but the sound was not what we expected after an earlier class B smaller band actually surprised us more with their sound. Its all early with plenty of time to clean and change for everyone. Carmel's score was a 69.0 tonight, 10+ over 2nd. gregorydf01, Warehouse314 and CTJBandPops 3 Quote
