lsu4ever1515 Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 i was just wondering who yall thought was the best band in ur opinion i thought perdonaly my band (the woodlands) was very good this year? what did yall think of us? well rply to this...... Quote
Dynasty Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Well.... Reagan, Bell, and Richland all did fantastic at GN. So from a BOA judging perspective, they were the best. Quote
mbui Posted December 14, 2005 Posted December 14, 2005 Ronald Reagan was the best band in Texas this year. There's no question about that. Average margin of victory at Texas BOA Regionals, 2.15 points. BOA Grand National Class AAA Champion BOA Grand National Runner-Up & Outstanding Music Performance winner Not to mention they had one heck of a show. Additional props.... to Richland for a fantastic season to L.D. Bell for the late season resurrgence to Marcus for a breakout year. Hopefully this year's success will carry into next season. Quote
ThanksForAllTheFish Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 L.D. Bell had the hardest show this year, no doubt about it. NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. Quote
actualgirltrombone Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 That depends on what you are basing your criteria of hard on. I personally think that Reagan's show was harder than ours (even though ours was insane, in my opinion) because they have to do many artistic/dancing type things. Unfortunately, I never got a chance to see L.D. Bell... so I honestly have no idea what your show consisted of. I'm sure it was super-hard though. Quote

And yes, major props to Bell and Richland. Twas a great year for Tx Bands at GN's! Quote
euro_euph06 Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 My school's show would have been less difficult if the drill writer wasn't a drill ruiner. Quote
Xukaniz Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I would really hate to say a band is best. All the bands in Texas represent our fine state well. Quote
bariphonium Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 Reagan, by BOA's standards, was the best this year, and for good reason: their show was one of the hardest I've ever seen, musically and visually. Richland also did very well for this year at GN, making finals the first time through. Huge props to Bell for (from what I could tell) basically re-learning their show for Nats. After Arlington, many people counted them out and never looked back. One of the greatest combacks I've ever seen. Ever. Marcus, as said before, also had a great breakout year. Definately a band to watch in the future. Woodlands had an alright year, but they were critisized very much for some things in their show (the boxing part stands out to me). Nothing exceptional, however. Quote
G-DubbMellophone0902 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 well i dont know about all the 4a and 5a schools, but the best bands in my region this year would be the bands from Hebbronville and Taft. Quote
Fortisimo Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I actually wasn't all that big on Reagan's show... it was Ok, but it really bogs down in places. This isn't uncommon, but still, I wasn't a huge fan of it or anything. I did really like Richland's show though- they usually have cool stuff, and this year wasn't any different. Quote
whitewing09 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I like Ld Bells show this year and Reagans was pretty good i didnt really like Richlands the show has to get me like at the beginning or i kinda lose interest and their show didnt really do that. I also liked Bowies show... dont hear about them often.. and Churchills was pretty good. I still think Ld bells and Reagans shows were the best Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I am a big fan of Reagan in general, but I just feel that their program is one of those that straddles of the line of marching band and show band. Despite that, I feel they were the best this year. Big time props to Bell. Such a contrast from the show in 2004. You all aren't the state champs for nothing and it showed in 2005. Despite all adversity, nice come back. Props to Roma as well. Not many people know about them, and it's a shame. They are a 4A powerhouse. They won class AA at the super regional and missed finals by less than a point. They would have been a 4A band competing in perhaps the hardest contest in the state, which is totally dominated by the 5A schools. Not to mention they are a military style band. That's right...no visuals (except for a horn flash every so often), props, or any type GE booster. Roma definitely deserves more attention than they get. But that's just my opinion, as the title of this thread suggests. Quote
whitewing09 Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Wheres Roma Hs at i thought from like south but i cant reallly remember Quote
Hawkeye Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 South of Laredo, http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Roma,+TX Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 It's on the far west of the Rio Grande Valley (AKA, the Valley). For those of you that don't know where the RGV is, its the region that is at the very southern tip of Texas, just north of Mexico. Quote
whitewing09 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Thats like Harlengen Brownsvilles and all that right Quote

manuel_pablo Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I really enjoyed Churchill and Richland's shows this year. Quote
titancoaster Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 4A the cleanest by far was Poteet they marched near perfect in finals but Frendswood had a better written show. 5A is all about reagan awsome music, visuals, and execution Quote
trumpetman1288 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 whitewing09 said: Thats like Harlengen Brownsvilles and all that right yeah...thats the eastern part of the RGV. It's made up of four counties (Willacy, Hidalgo, Cameron, Starr) and I am experiencing a brain fart at the moment, so I can't remember which county is which...I think I got it. Cameron is where Brownsville, Harlingen, and most of you should know this one, South Padre Island are. Hidalgo is west of that one and is home to Hidalgo, Mission, McAllen, Edinburg, and other places. The next county is Starr...where Roma and Rio Grande City are. There really isn't much out there except for those two cities. Really...it's mostly dirt and dry grass and a tree every so often. The only reason RGC has a 5A school out there is because RGC has Ringgold fort and some other historic background, in addition to a number of jobs out there. Willacy county...I don't know much about that area. Mostly ranches out there. I think Raymondville is up there...don't remember, oh well. Willacy is north of Cameron. But yes...that was your geography lesson for today. Quote
bluebellbrass07 Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 I would say Bell had the best show from a design standpoint. AS far as performance, Reagan had it musically, and though not a Texas band Avon's drill was amazing. I really enjoy watching Richlands show too. Anyone know what D-ville did this past year? Quote

Zach, I've got to give props where they are due..... I've raved about it before and I'll rave about it again....L.D. Bell's overall design was absolutely stunning. I was left speechless the first time I saw it on the Grand Nationals DVD. Shoot, I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it right now. Quote
Xenon Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 bluebellbrass07 said: Anyone know what D-ville did this past year? Duncanville played music from Sir Malcolm Arnold and Alfred Reed including English Dances and Armenian Dances. It was basically, from a musical standpoint, a rehash of the 1990 State Championship show which allowed the Duncanville staff to focus more on the Midwest and TEA concerts that they performed. Quote
