El Gato_01 Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Shocking to me that Round Rock HS made it in to state finals last year but not into a BOA regional today? I wonder if their early performance time (2nd of the day) had an effect? Any performance times yet? Quote

A Testing Trumpet Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 I think it has more to do with the quality of bands here today then anything reflective of RR. It's also worth noting they're playing the long game for Grand Nationals. Quote

My bad. Either way my earlier surprise call of Shadow Creek didn't pan out . Oh well...can't get em all right. Again as others have noted, shows the unpredictability of these events especially since we are all going off of historical results for this first contest. Quote

A Testing Trumpet Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 I thought they were plenty strong, a lot better then last year for sure. Band simply is getting so much more competitive, especially over the last 2 years or so. Quote
Band2013 Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 LISD - Insanely Talented, watching them today was an honor. RRISD - Cedar Ridge begins its reign as the dominant band in this district. Westwood finds itself on the other side this year. AISD - Bowie isnt going anywhere and Lake Travis comes back after "tuba video". And CTJ is always great Quote
Synth_God Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Hendrickson got a time penalty if anyone was curious. I am not sure if that's what decided finals for them but it is possible. Quote

Interesting that no other AISD bands were here today except Ann Richards. The rest of them opted for CapCity. On that note Ann Richards comes in 2nd to Hays CISD newcomer Johnson HS (first year in existence..so many new schools popping up in central texas) Quote

There were very clear reasons why today's performance was not good enough to make the finals. They are capable of doing better and I hope they will in the coming weeks. Quote
BlueCircle Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 I’m so glad that the weather didn’t mess with this competition today. Except for some wind (CTJ ) Quote
Band2013 Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Round Rock Is A Great Band and they have the record to prove it. This competition is tough and making finals is always going to be a fight. they are going to nationals so maybe they will peak late. A Testing Trumpet 1 Quote
SATXBandDad Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Dang wind! Big props to our crew dude who bit it trying to grab a screen and jumped right back up! You sir, are the hero of the day!! LeanderMomma 1 Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 This is perhaps the toughest regular season regional in the entire country. There is no shame in not making finals. Honestly, it blows anything out of the water from even a few years ago. Quote
abtwitch Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Lake Travis made finals at McAllen in 2015 (I think) and Westwood has made finals at Atlanta in 2015 and St. Louis in 2017. This does mark Westwood’s first year making BOA finals in their home state of Texas, consider their stake claimed in this great state and congrats to Rouse for their first BOA finals appearance in history. And of course, congrats to LT once again because Austin and McAllen are very different competitions. Quote
Synth_God Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Does anyone know the penalty value for going under the six minute minimum for performances at BOA? Quote

And yes, but Westwood had made two super regional finals, but not a regular regional final until tonight! Having a 5:30 show will kill you in a competition like this. Quote
Popular Post BandFan95 Posted September 28, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 28, 2019 Lots of Westwood kids in tears tonight. I couldn’t be more proud of this band. abbytheflute, TWHSParent, thewho and 3 others 6 Quote

principalagent Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 The LISD heavyweights and CTJ are in the top five from prelims. Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 Round Rock is a regular Gnats attendee and Cedar Ridge has attended before. When will Westwood make the trip to Indy? (Or have they already?) Quote
A Testing Trumpet Posted September 28, 2019 Posted September 28, 2019 The first (and only) time Cedar Ridge went was in 2013. I am fairly certain Westwood has never gone to Grand Nationals, and certainly not in the modern era. Would love to see both of them make the trip sometime. Quote
