LeanderMomma Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 So I just wanted to start a thread for those of us who are equally passionate about things other than band. For me it’s Texas Ranger baseball and even more so, college softball. My middle daughter was a gifted athlete and she was an especially good softball player. She played select softball from 12 years on up and also played in college. We are still avid fans, and she and I are currently wrapped up in the Women’s College World Series. Anybody else watching? BlackJesus Posted June 2, 2019 Posted June 2, 2019 Soccer. Unlike a lot of people though, I don't follow any of the European leagues lol. I watch games from my favorite team in Liga MX, the Gold Cup, and of course the World Cup, as well as Mexico or USA matches. P.S. Croatia juat had some really bad luck in the Final and it still breaks my heart that they didn't win </3 LeanderMomma 1 Quote

Popular Post abtwitch Posted June 3, 2019 Popular Post Posted June 3, 2019 As a music education major, band pretty much is my life and even is my main hobby (as you can probably tell by that spreadsheet... trust me there's a WHOLE lot more where that came from). Outside of marching band, I play euphonium as my main instrument in concert band and am beginning to pick up trumpet for jazz band. I used to be more into it, but I play video games from time to time, but not as often as some of my peers. I'm also a big fan of traveling and getting to see new places. I've been on roadtrips across Texas and even drove most of the way from Wilmington, NC to Austin on my own, with the route from Jackson, MS back to Austin in one day. I did a mini-road trip this past spring break, visiting friends in The Woodlands, Pearland, and San Antonio with plans to go to Dallas that I unfortunately couldn't follow through on. Part of my passion for traveling comes from my upbringing, spending 3 1/2 years of my pre-elementary school life living in Tianjin, China (I am not Asian, it was for my dad's work). We visited many countries like Thailand, Australia, and Malaysia on our vacation times as well as sights in China like the Great Wall and Forbidden City. We went back to China to visit a few summers back and got to see a lot of that stuff again and relive old memories. My next adventure starts tomorrow, actually. I am going to spend a month in Leipzig, Germany for study abroad with my university! We have lots of trips planned to nearby cities as well (including a concert by the Berlin Phil), so it will be a busy and VERY fun month for me. takigan, FaultLineBlues, FloMoParent and 2 others 5 Quote

My family’s teams are Cruz Azul(mom’s side) and Pachuca(dad’s side). They both didn’t do well in the liguilla but hey they still did pretty well Quote
takigan Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Not to anyone's surprise but I'm a big Japanese culture buff. It started with Japanese RPGs in elementary school, then Japanese animation in middle school but by the time I graduated HS I'd flipped through pretty much every book my HS library had on Japan. I actually was torn between doing Asian Studies or Music for my college major, but ultimately opted for Music as that career pathway was more concrete and more colleges offered it.Learning the Japanese language has been something I've always wanted to do since I was like....9. I took 2 semesters in college and I try to spend a little time every week learning more about it. It's so difficult I doubt I'll ever be fluent but I try to learn a little bit everyday...and hope as much of it as possible sticks. Quote
josephbandfan Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Anything art related (photography, graphic design, film, dance, music, etc.) I would love to travel and see the world. Video games, anime, Harry Potter, Super Heroes Lgbtq+ rights I would love to be able to work in gaming for the rest of my life or animated movies. My mom used to tell me when I was younger that you can't make a living playing video game and I hope to prove her wrong FaultLineBlues 1 Quote

WoodlandsMom4ever Posted June 3, 2019 Posted June 3, 2019 Hm... something outside of Band? Does Taxi driving kids around count? lol! Hubby and I love to travel- road trips, cruises, amusement parks, Disney. That's why I run concessions to earn $ towards band fee's- so paying for 2 kids activity fee's don't take all our travel funds. Hanging out with our kiddo's and their friends at the house, going to movies. We watch a lot of sports on tv, but aren't crazy fans and don't schedule life around most games/sports. We've moved around a lot, so our teams are kind of a larger list: NBA: OKC Thunder, Golden State, (kinda) Rockets. NFL: Texans, SF 49ers. MLB: Astro's, NY Yankee's, Oakland A's. Colleges: BYU, OU, OSU, USC, We do a lot of activities and service with our church congregation. I love to read, and enjoy the pool and sunshine. LeanderMomma 1 Quote

LeanderMomma Posted June 3, 2019 Author Posted June 3, 2019 The final softball WCWS games begin tonight with Oklahoma and UCLA duking it out. It’s on at 4:30 here in California but 6:30 for the rest of my Texas friends. Y’all should watch. WoodlandsMom4ever 1 Quote

I'll be chaperoning Houston BOA day. I know I'll be at SA BOA, but not sure if I'll be chaperoning or just there with hubby. I might have more of a chance to meet if I'm chaperoning, as hubby is kind of anti social? Not completely, but he really doesn't get into meeting new friends from message boards like I do. lol! We'll also be hanging out with our daughter that goes to school out there. I'll be at Grand Nat's with him, but am hoping to talk him into going to the meet up that's being planned. LeanderMomma Posted June 3, 2019 Author Posted June 3, 2019 Ha. My hubby is quite anti social as well! I do hope we get the chance to meet this fall. There are so many great TXB people in here that I would really love to meet. WoodlandsMom4ever 1 Quote

You should go to the Mexico vs USA game for the Gold Cup! Live MLS matches kinda bore me because it tries to make games very family-friendly, so there's not the intense atmosphere you'd probably need to really get in to it lol Quote

LHSbandDad Posted June 5, 2019 Posted June 5, 2019 Travel and trip planning. I am on the road 100+ nights a year for my job but it comes with lots of Frequent Flyer miles and Hotel points that I like to use for family vacations and/or trips with my wife. The fun of it for me is planning it myself. I am proud to call myself an independent traveler who never over pays for a guided tour on a bus. The fun of it for me it figuring out how to stretch my travel dollars as far as I can, which comes in handy as we are planning our second trip to Indianapolis in three years!! I envy those of you with frequent flyer miles and reward points. Traveling is expensive! I do use my travel credit card a lot to build points, but nothing like I’m sure you must have through work travel. You are blessed! WoodlandsMom4ever 1 Quote
