So I just wanted to start a thread for those of us who are equally passionate about things other than band. For me it’s Texas Ranger baseball and even more so, college softball. My middle daughter was a gifted athlete and she was an especially good softball player. She played select softball from 12 years on up and also played in college. We are still avid fans, and she and I are currently wrapped up in the Women’s College World Series. Anybody else watching?

Soccer. Unlike a lot of people though, I don't follow any of the European leagues lol. I watch games from my favorite team in Liga MX, the Gold Cup, and of course the World Cup, as well as Mexico or USA matches.

P.S. Croatia juat had some really bad luck in the Final and it still breaks my heart that they didn't win </3

I always want to be a soccer fan, but I can never seem to get attached to it.

I haven’t been following liga MX as much as I used to but it’s awesome when you find someone who follows. My family’s teams are Cruz Azul(mom’s side) and Pachuca(dad’s side). They both didn’t do well in the liguilla but hey they still did pretty well

Not to anyone's surprise but I'm a big Japanese culture buff.  It started with Japanese RPGs in elementary school, then Japanese animation in middle school but by the time I graduated HS I'd flipped through pretty much every book my HS library had on Japan.  I actually was torn between doing Asian Studies or Music for my college major, but ultimately opted for Music as that career pathway was more concrete and more colleges offered it.

Learning the Japanese language has been something I've always wanted to do since I was like....9.  I took 2 semesters in college and I try to spend a little time every week learning more about it.  It's so difficult I doubt I'll ever be fluent but I try to learn a little bit everyday...and hope as much of it as possible sticks.

Anything art related (photography, graphic design, film, dance, music, etc.)

I would love to travel and see the world.

Video games, anime, Harry Potter, Super Heroes

Lgbtq+ rights

I would love to be able to work in gaming for the rest of my life or animated movies. My mom used to tell me when I was younger that you can't make a living playing video game and I hope to prove her wrong  :D

My friend recently moved to Japan to go to school for animation and I am so jealous. If I could travel anywhere for vacation, Japan would be my top choice.

Hm... something outside of Band?

Does Taxi driving kids around count? lol!

Hubby and I love to travel- road trips, cruises, amusement parks, Disney.  That's why I run concessions to earn $ towards band fee's- so paying for 2 kids activity fee's don't take all our travel funds.

Hanging out with our kiddo's and their friends at the house, going to movies.  We watch a lot of sports on tv, but aren't crazy fans and don't schedule life around most games/sports. We've moved around a lot, so our teams are kind of a larger list: NBA: OKC Thunder, Golden State, (kinda) Rockets. NFL: Texans, SF 49ers.  MLB: Astro's, NY Yankee's, Oakland A's.  Colleges: BYU, OU, OSU, USC,

We do a lot of activities and service with our church congregation.

I love to read, and enjoy the pool and sunshine.

I love how much you love Japanese stuff. You really should consider moving there and working for a few years if you can.

We have so much in common, Julie. We gotta get together sometime!

Definitely! I'll be chaperoning Houston BOA day. I know I'll be at SA BOA, but not sure if I'll be chaperoning or just there with hubby.  I might have more of a chance to meet if I'm chaperoning, as hubby is kind of anti social?  Not completely, but he really doesn't get into meeting new friends from message boards like I do.  lol!  We'll also be hanging out with our daughter that goes to school out there.   I'll be at Grand Nat's with him, but am hoping to talk him into going to the meet up that's being planned.

You should go to the Mexico vs USA game for the Gold Cup! Live MLS matches kinda bore me because it tries to make games very family-friendly, so there's not the intense atmosphere you'd probably need to really get in to it lol

Basketball by a lot I watch almost every game thats on TV. Favorite teams are Atlanta and Denver, sadly neither of them are in the final. I want Raptors to win though cause 3 straight from Golden State is a no from me dawg. I also play Super Smash Bros a lot and have gone to tournaments, but haven't won anything yet lol

Travel and trip planning.  I am on the road 100+ nights a year for my job but it comes with lots of Frequent Flyer miles and Hotel points that I like to use for family vacations and/or trips with my wife.  The fun of it for me is planning it myself.  I am proud to call myself an independent traveler who never over pays for a guided tour on a bus.  The fun of it for me it figuring out how to stretch my travel dollars as far as I can, which comes in handy as we are planning our second trip to Indianapolis in three years!!

I envy those of you with frequent flyer miles and reward points. Traveling is expensive! I do use my travel credit card a lot to build points, but nothing like I’m sure you must have through work travel. You are blessed!
