jjblob Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 That one competition that people go to instead of BOA San Antonio, just for later when it's coming up and people might want to talk Quote
SA2020 Posted July 3, 2019 Posted July 3, 2019 Anybody know why Churchill dropped out of BOA SA and went there instead? Quote

They have a new director, and often when that happens, bands take on a less ambitious contest schedule so the new staff can test the waters. Quote
jjblob Posted July 3, 2019 Author Posted July 3, 2019 True true, I just hope that they don't stomp on the regulars of us bands too hard. I'm pulling through for Anderson to repeat win though dmcampos 1 Quote

I had heard through the rumor mill that with a new director coming in that they did not commit/sign up -they are going to McAllen (first time attendee) but are not going to the BOA events in Austin, Houston or SA - where they have been regulars for as long as I can remember. New Director, new ideas - could be a start of their return - they have been consistent BOA Finalists the past decade but had been missing some of their shine as of late. MadisonBandMan1 1 Quote
MadisonBandMan1 Posted July 6, 2019 Posted July 6, 2019 Thank you for the info. I knew they had a new director but they have always been a BOA band so it's weird to see them back off a bit after so long. Like I said, I loved competing against them. They are kind of our friendly "nemesis" right now if you know what I mean. (As with Judson, I suppose. We still talk about how they beat us by a tenth of a point at Yamaha Cup: Converse in 2016. It doesn’t make much sense to me unless they’re looking for an almost certain medal to motivate the band. Also with Churchill skipping Austin and making a near identical trip later in the season seems odd too New staff Quote
jjblob Posted August 1, 2019 Author Posted August 1, 2019 New staff is a good point and along side that it could be that they were late to sign up (cause of the new staff adjusting) Quote
Dog885 Posted August 14, 2019 Posted August 14, 2019 Looks like Adamson (Dallas), Lehman (Kyle), and Canyon (New Braunfels) were added, so it's looking like this will be pretty a competitive competition Quote
Dog885 Posted September 8, 2019 Posted September 8, 2019 Looks like PSJA and Dripping Springs are going as well Quote
jjblob Posted September 11, 2019 Author Posted September 11, 2019 What's Dripping Springs plan with going to usbands here? Medaling is already going to be tough for regulars at this event but now with the addition of DS it's even tougher Quote
lost Posted September 11, 2019 Posted September 11, 2019 I wish Dripping Springs would do BOA SA I know that in 2017 they would’ve absolutely been in the talks at San Antonio for a final spot, same with 18’. I’m actually not sure if they’re on a rotation of not on UIL Years and they didn’t go last year because they went to St Louis instead that sounds like a possibility but I’m not sure Saxman1324 1 Quote
Saxman1324 Posted September 29, 2019 Posted September 29, 2019 I think that Dripping Springs is starting to use this contest because it is right before 5A state. It is a little closer and the chances of them having two lower pressure performances to lock in the past week of improvement helps them a lot late in the season Quote

SpartanBandAlum Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I’d say Dripping Springs and Churchill top 2, with Brennan, Johnson and Georgetown rounding out the top 5? Quote

WC was on the waiting list but, we were too far out to make the cut. Their show is great this year, just disappointed that it will not be presented at SA BOA. Quote
