Some are new to the game, others have been on the scene for decades. Why not post a brief about your band's competitive history and awards won. Here is the Flower Mound High School Band history. The 2011-12 school year was the first year that FMHS decided to be a competitor in the BOA events and was the first year for Brent Biskup to be the Assistant Director/Director of Marching (luckily it was also my daughter's freshman year at FMHS). Popular Post FEDude Posted September 19, 2019 Popular Post Posted September 19, 2019 Well for Taft, some years have been more notable than others. I'll only name the years something of interest happened. 1998 - 23rd at UIL State 1999 - 10th at BOA SA (would've been 9th ahead of the Woodlands had it not been for a technical difficulty in the pit causing a penalty) 2000 - 22nd at UIL State (tied with O'Connor for the highest placement at state for an NISD band not named Marshall, from the information that's available at least) 2004 - Alternate for UIL state competition at Area E, 7th at BOA La Joya 2005 - 5th at BOA La Joya 2006 - 29th at UIL State 2010 - 30th at UIL State 2014 - 29th at UIL State The strongest years I'd say were 2004-2007. I was there from fall 2013 to Spring 2017 before I moved to Utah. If you were in the Taft, and O'Connor band to be honest, you remember how mentally taxing the 2014 season was. It was the talk of NISD that we weren't gonna make state, then when we did, it started a very mean spirited Twitter fight. But Taft and O'Connor bonded quite a bit after that. We didn't see each other as rivals anymore but as true sister bands. I've been out of the game for a while, but it seems like there's less contention in NISD. I'm guessing it has a lot to do with us realizing State is a long shot unless all of LISD oversleeps the day of Area and Westlake accidentally goes to Area G. LeanderMomma Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 I see that Round Rock HS was established in 1867. It’s cool that these schools have such a long history! Quote

Some schools, I only know about their recent history and would love to learn more about their past. I didn't know that Flower Mound only started competing in BOA in 2011 Quote

LeanderMomma Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 Oh that’s cool about the exact 100 year gap! We moved to the area in 97 and Cedar Park had like 18,000 residents. Now it’s near 77,000! Mind blowing. gregorydf01 1 Quote

principalagent Posted September 19, 2019 Posted September 19, 2019 Cedar Ridge, CTJ, and Ronald Reagan all became BOA Grand National finalists in their fourth year of existence. No other Texas bands have made it that quickly (although FloMo made it on their 4th year of BOA competition). Quote

The cool part of virtually every band (no matter what classification) is that they have had success at one point or another...some have maintained it, some have fallen off a bit and then there's the "New Kids On The Block" who burst onto the scene and change the playing field for everyone. That area (Collin/Denton Counties) of DFW is changing and growing quickly. Just last year, Prosper was one of those bands that jumped into the spotlight...this year they have a new high school. I don't know if that affected the numbers for Prosper but it will be interesting if they can continue their success. Hopefully, they will. Quote
