I really love the visual flow of this show, there always seems to be some sort of movement on the field no matter how subtle. Not super clean musically but itll get where it needs to be come Nats. The visual demand is INSANE but there is just way too much going on and it’s much dirtier than I’m used to from Carmel. Also I don’t understand the theme and how the musical selections make any sense with it, why did they arrange Queen to death??? The design is the least effective since 9 Lives in my opinion. The show is pretty beautiful but feels so one-note throughout. Edit: I read a post on the HornRank forum and know now where the music came from. Still an odd choice in my opinion. Quote

Being on the outside now I'll take a stab at it...and I could be completely off base. It seems Avon is taking the 8 note progression from the opening Canon and showcasing that same note progression throughout songs from past eras to present age. I'd never think of Pachelbel, Green Day, Miley, Copeland and the Beatles in the same musical ideas until that sequence was pointed out. Watching practices has been interesting as you can hear multiple tunes being played throughout the field underneath a dominant one many times during the show. All based on that 8 note progression. Watch the drum majors in the opener and you can see the tempo shift to a different tune while the first one is still ongoing at the original tempo by the soloists. That cant be easy. I'm catching snippets of shows from the past decade buried throughout UnBaroquen both musically and field sstaging. Rubisco Posted October 26, 2019 Posted October 26, 2019 I still find Carmel's show extremely evocative. Yeah, maybe it wasn't the best idea having all those musically exposed moments, when they don't sound perfect (or anything close to perfect), but it's a great book. I think, visually, it's going to be very, very hard (as usual) to top Avon and Carmel at Nationals. I still think they'll both make it into the top 3, unless there are some serious improvements from the Texas contingent. I do, however, think Vandegrift's and Hebron's chances of making a splash at Nationals are better after seeing these Indianapolis prelims performances. (Thanks again, LeanderMomma!) The show is phenomenally designed but I don’t really care for the theme. Overall, the show isn’t as magical as last year, but it’s still really pretty close. Too electronic for my taste but the performance, especially visually, was stunning. The amount of detail in the design made it feel like I was watching DCI. Quote
