BlueCircle
Very different from the stuff you see in Texas, but very enjoyable. Probably the best singers I've heard in a marching band! The show definitely grew on me as it went on. They perform the heck out of it, especially the soloists!
BlueCircle
Brownsburg! I loved the closer especially that cool sax feature. Also, their drill was nice and clean to my untrained eyes.
abbytheflute
Really loving North Hardin's show!! Especially the flute soloist! Sounds amazing

Popular Post BlueCircle
I think the most noticeable thing about watching this regional is how good these non-Texas color guards are! I think the 8 hour rule places huge limitations on guard and basically any visual aspect of the production. abbytheflute, Tx Hill Country Bands and Dosh24
FaultLineBlues
I don't know if maybe it's the writing or just me but does Carmel sound like they're having some minor phasing issues to anyone else? FaultLineBlues

Definitely heard a tear. Their field coverage and amount of performers is insane.
principalagent
Horn soloist had their best run yet, but holy heck this high trumpet intonation would never fly in a Texas band hall. FaultLineBlues
BlueCircle
Carmel’s guard KILLED IT with that run, but it seemed like a somewhat rough run from the winds. I quite like this show, it’s pretty great. But “pretty great” doesn’t cut it for a band that has seniors who don’t know what it’s like not to win Nats. FaultLineBlues
Whoa, those uniforms are a ridiculously cool effect for Lincoln-Way.
BlueCircle
Lincoln-Way has some awesome moments but I don’t see them staying as 3rd in AAAA. The gimmick is cool I guess, but the show is pretty standard to me. Still a very worthy finalist. Great flute soloist!
LHSax
I really tried to watch Carmel with an open mind this time around and really objectively see what they do right that makes them so though to beat.Their guard is phenomenal, the visual package does a good job of taking advantage of their size (although it’s just a bit too all over the place for my taste), and there are some great musical moments if you’re patient enough to get to them. That was definitely a iffy run for them musically (the tear actually lasted for quite a while), though I anticipate that won’t happen again in a couple weeks. That said, I think the gap to Avon tonight will be pretty substantial, and I think there’s plenty of space in that gap to fit at least 1 and maybe 2 Texas bands in there. This of course assumes the Texas 6 can’t top Avon of course, which I’m still skeptical about.
FaultLineBlues
Avon has some really really cool and well executed drill.
principalagent
Kevin is gonna have to deal with another cold winter, y'all. He's not flying as far southwest as we want him to this year.

LHSax
TIL - the eagle is named Kevin. And agreed. Will be tough to convince him to come down here when Avon is playing like that.
Nny14
Imagine having a world class guard, wind section, drumline, and visual package and ruining it with horrendously cheesy narration. Sorry to be salty but it really ruins the good in this show for me. Ugh. abbytheflute

principalagent
I keep saying that but no one believes me. It's time to start believing it. We're playing for second (which after tonight, is very very much in play).
Nny14
Disagree about playing for second. That was very much beatable.

BlueCircle
The moment in Avons show between and ballad and the closer gives me the smallest bit of hope that a Texas band can take home the Eagle. Not impossible to beat, but realistically it will be very very challenging.
BlueCircle
Homestead going after Avon is pretty revealing. Homestead has an ambitious show and just needs to take advantage of the next three weeks for cleaning. Rough performance it seems, or maybe Avon was THAT good. The ending of the ballad and the soprano sax solo was pretty magical.
betelgeuse33
Avon is incredible, but I agree that the narration is extremely annoying. Nny14

Any given Sunday, or Saturday in this case! I'm also saying this more than just blind Texas homerism, just don't think the overall design of the show is THAT strong.
