2020 Boa Grand Nationals

Their last 2 years has seen them go through a change is assistant director(marching director)/ color guard, and added a new junior assistant director. Lots of changes in leadership and remaining relevant and successful has been good for the organization as a whole. I really want to see them push next year but some of that will be dependent upon a young group.

I can't wait for the reveal this May. I've heard very little about what's being planned for us, but I can say it's going to be a whole new Cedar Park. New uniforms as well!

With the next 3 years of having Grand Nats the 2nd weekend in November, maybe more Texas bands will attend even on a 6A state year. In 2016, Reagan and Leander did BOA San Antonio Fri/Sat, UIL State Tue/Wed and GNs Thu/Fri/Sat all in one week.

James Bowie HS, Austin, TX is also on a 4 year rotation. Their last appearance was in 2016 which should put them in for 2020. That said, I think we would have heard rumblings of a an appearance next year and still reeling from their multiple staff changes these past 4 years I would think they would most likely be looking at a 2021 appearance, maybe, if they do decide to return?

Would love to see some Houston representation at Nats! 2020 is TWHS off/state year obviously but the talks about Pearland going excites me.

 

Would love to see Spring go back or maybe even North Shore. Clear Brook would be a sight to see considering their uprising this year. Maybe the other CISD bands like College Park and Oak Ridge but that'll be highly unlikely considering it's 6A state year next year.

 

So maybe some 5A bands such as SFA and Friendswood (tell me if I'm wrong about class, I'm just going with my brain here and it can be wrong)

Now that GN is a week later, The "it's a 6A year, those bands won't go" theory I think might be done, at least for now.  It's definitely a more complex schedule and you're also doing a UIL production rather than a BOA show, but I think the scheduling part of it might be done.

There are some groups I cant ever imagine choosing to go on a UIL year just because that seems to be their focus. I really want to see Coppell make their first Nats trip, but I think they fall in that category.

 

Haltom seems to like doing their own thing. Maybe they will go?

SFA is 6a, but I do believe they are getting back up to the level needed to make finals. I think they woulda been around 14th-17th had they attended this year.

Not this upcoming year, but I've heard Weiss is planning on attending nationals in 2022. This will be the first Pflugerville ISD school to attend nationals since Connally attended in 2006 and placed 26th overall in semifinals.

That claim could hold to be true. Weiss did attend St Louis two years after it was founded a Grand Nationals trip doesn’t seem to be out of the question for them.

Texas has never won two consecutive titles

Katy ISD, you hear this? Tompkins? Seven Lakes? JORDAN? (I’m pressuring this school even though it doesn’t exist yet). I’m itching for a breakout year from one of these groups really really soon. Come on!!!!!

 

I’m all seriousness, Houston seems to be cooking some real potential for new Grand Nats appearances throughout these past few years. The most obvious example is Pearland; I really hope that these guys can cement themselves as a “2nd best” Houston group; or better yet, hang right there with TWHS. That is, until a Katy ISD group catches up to them.

Vista Ridge is 6A and is going to grand nats in 2020 for example.

I want Keller to go so bad, but I can understand why they wont be. I also hear that KISD will be building indoor facilities for each of the high schools which is exciting. Maybe they will be done by the time Keller goes to GN again.

Call me crazy but if vandegrift can put together and perform a grand nationals winning show then I think Vista is just as capable. They seem to have a slower start than most but end up passing notable competition by San Antonio.

 

This is no knock at vandy, I just think almost as highly of vista right now as I do them. Vista could be one of the few Texas bands to win visual in finals of GN. Their no shakos+emotional expression in performance gives them incredibly high and well deserved individual visual scores. Plus, we all know those students can play with the best of them.

 

Every year is different but I wouldn't be shocked to see another LISD band in the medals at nats.
