Vidal28 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 I’ve always had a very positive opinion on Hebron this year all around, and it’s just ‘cause they deserve all the credit in the world through the incredible effort they show on the field, playing ridiculously difficult music on the move, having made the demand even more difficult on the students through the quickened pace the show has developed throughout the season, and the students continually step up to that challenge, every section has their moment to shine and they all take it, my favorites have got to be the low brass(trombones were just so unreal and excellent) and the saxophone ensemble in the ballad. The full woodwind and brass ensemble moments go without saying, such an amazing performance! 5 te 6 1 Quote

Their visual program is a lot better than people on here give them credit for. Super exciting drill and I love seeing the colors unfold from the pens as the show progresses. BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Cypress Woods gave a strong performance! Visually they were very clean and played with nice full sounds. I could see them potentially sneaking into finals here with how big the bubble is right now. MikeKyu 1 Quote
Origin Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Cypress Woods was really great! It’s hard to figure out where they fit in the rankings, since it’s easy to directly compare them to Hebron. I would like a bit more energy in the music performance, I was expecting a band this big to be a bit louder. Its a very very good show, even if it feels like the theming and music has been done before. If they don’t make finals tonight, it is certainly in their near future!! Quote
Rubisco Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Cypress Woods plays very well and has great visual clarity. Very, very exciting things in this band's future! I haven't seen enough of the bands here to know whether Cypress Woods will make the finals cut, but I feel like they should at least be in the running. Quote

Performance captions no longer go to the bands that are simply the cleanest playing or marching groups; bands also need to challenge themselves, which I think Hebron did in that performance. This is also why the performance captions have become more difficult to predict! Vidal28 and 5 te 6 2 Quote
Origin Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Pearland was awesome! For some reason I didn’t expect the show to end where it did. I hope we get to see that show again! jmj 1 Quote
jmj Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Really great stuff from Pearland- they do all the things well and this is a great music book - I love me some Scythian Suite! Works really well for the marionettes turning on the makers. Guard is selling the heck out of all of this, too. Oh, I so hope we see them again tonight! Quote
BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Pearland was very clean. Glad to see their director changes haven't affected them as much as they can. They're in the bubble for me tonight. Quote
Origin Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Wylie! I think they were close to finals here in 2019, so it’s not surprising they are this good. The bubble grows! Quote
jmartin1056 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 If anyone has/gets ahold of a video of Hebron from earlier I would greatly appreciate it. I had to miss it for gameday rehearsal. Oh the joys of collegiate band :) Quote

BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 A very classic Marcus type show IMO. Very rich sounds that blend so well paired with drill that, while admittedly isn't the hardest, is incredibly clean. The ballad with the two mellophone soloists is fantastic and one of the highlights of the season. Fantastic performance and one that really epitomizes what Marcus is. Quote
BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Really strong performance from Klein Oak there! They move well and play with strong sounds. Lux Aurumque is one of my favorite pieces by Whitacre and I think they did a really good job recreating it in the ballad. I think they'll fall just short of finals with the level of competition here, but I can see them doing really well at state. Quote

Origin Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 It’s nice to finally see Waxahachie attend this competition! They produce such good sounds!! Maybe a bit of nerves at the beginning, but the show kept getting better and better. This show feels more UIL than BOA so I’m excited to see how they do at state in a few days! Quote
