BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 What a great performance by Waxahachie! That jazzy ballad was absolutely fantastic to listen to and honestly reminded me of Hebron's 2017 ballad. The saxophone drum major is very talented. Visually there were a few miscues that I think will ultimately keep them out of finals, but man do they sound amazing. Origin 1 Quote
Origin Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Your defending champs, Ronald Reagan! I love love love their music! That never ending woodwind feature, oh my god. They are attempting some crazy hard stuff, but I do hear a few too many inconsistencies. I’ve seen them totally nail that woodwind duet, so I’m sad that it kinda fell apart. The hit in the ballad oddly feels like it’s lacking in power. There is still room for them to grow, which is mostly a good thing. Quote
BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 If I'm being perfectly honest that was a pretty rough run for Reagan. Noticeable tears in the opener made it difficult for the band to gel together. Visually they were very good like they normally are but I think Reagan might find themselves at the bottom of the top half or even dropping into the bottom half with that run. Quote
slowbrass Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Probably not the nails run they were hoping for, but Reagan’s show still seems in much better shape than even a week ago. I have no idea where to put them though, except top half. Quote

Rubisco Posted November 6, 2021 Posted November 6, 2021 Omg. Waxahachie's ballad! That made me want to swing around on a pole! That's a good thing. I LOVED it! I thought Reagan was great. It still didn't quite sound like a full ensemble effort in parts, and that duet tear/drop out was unfortunate, but this is difficult stuff, folks. We've gotta cut them some slack. A little bit more visual dirt than I was expecting, too, but overall it was an excellent performance. I definitely do NOT envy the prelims judges at this event. They had a very tough task these past two days. Bands, you were all absolutely amazing. To use a cliche: the activity has risen like a phoenix from the ashes! So incredibly uplifting to see the quality that has been achieved this year! BandDad4 and WILKINSON 2 Quote
