I just can't get into Carmel's show this year. They have all the tools to be the champion here; the music book is brilliant (their woodwinds are excellent), visual design is near flawless like usual, and the color guard is absolutely phenomenal and does things that would never be attempted in a million years by any guard in Texas (except maybe the Woodlands). But it just doesn't grab my attention for some reason.

Flower Mound has the best time slot of the Eagle contenders here. The second block has a lot of the heavy hitters, so the judges will be able to compare a lot of them right next to each other. Will be very fascinating to see semifinals results from these!

Yeah, Flower Mound is in a very good spot. That's exciting! Semis champions tend to come later in the schedule rather than earlier.

But the other contenders aren't in bad spots, either. Most of the finalist "locks" (or lock-ish groups) are in that block before the lunch break, so there will be plenty of pretty direct comparisons. Nevertheless, I think it will be difficult for the judges to decide on their finalists this year.

Does anyone have the prelims score sheet? If so can you please send it to me I am really curious on how all the TX bands placed. (Thank y'all for telling me that recaps are hidden until after prelims I kind of forgot 😂)

I'm 100% team Texas. But we don't have any 2A bands partying this weekend in Indy. Norwin winning AA was not unexpected. I'm excited to see how they do in finals. It's pretty awesome for an AA band to qualify on score when in Texas some seasons we can't even get a 3A band to qualify for a Super Regional's finals.

I mean, Argyle would easily beat Norwin if they went.

Hey now, you brought small Texas bands up and I gave a hypothetical example.

I'm just laughing. I'm one of the extremely few people who has competed against Wester Pennsylvania's best and marched with them as well. I have competed against and marched with both Kiski and Norwin as well as competed against them both. Yeah, my parents moved around a lot.

It's very hard to compare small bands when they aren't competing on "the big stages." Is Argyle excellent? Yep. But I also like to keep fantasy out of current contests.

Would I have loved to see BOA Sam Antonio's finalists all attent nationals? Yeah!! But I'm also not invalidating the results with a "But if Vandergrift went they would place xxx"

Enjoy the moment for what it is. Each victory is well worth it and comparing those to non-attending bands is, in my opinion, irrelevant.

Have fun with semi and finals runs. It's a magical time.
