LostChoirGuy Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 Coppell is going to San Antonio but neither Prosper nor SL Carroll are going this year. All will be fighting for state spots at their area competitions next week. Coppell and Southlake in Area B which will take 5 groups. Other notable groups in this area include Keller, L.D. Bell, Waxahachie, Timber Creek, Duncanville, Haltom, Lake Ridge, Mansfield, Keller Central, Martin, Pearce, Richardson... Prosper in area C which will take 4 groups. Other notable groups in this area include Flower Mound, Hebron, Marcus, Wylie, Rockwall, Plano East, Allen, McKinney, John Horn... (Those are not exhaustive lists but the groups that in my mind have the best shot of beating out the aforementioned bands) An Inspirational Pinecone 1 Quote

BandFan59 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 Recaps were released overnight. James Martin was only 0.73 points below Blue Springs South, the last band in finals, and were two places away from making it. Very interesting to note: Coppell actually finished 2nd above Blue Springs in prelims by 0.65 points. The last time Blue Springs was below 2nd at St. Louis in prelims or finals was in 2015 finals when they finished 3rd behind Union and Broken Arrow. A huge day for Texas bands yesterday! Quote
Tubalord11 Posted October 24, 2021 Posted October 24, 2021 I’m soooo happy for out tx bands. Prosper made such a big jump from prelims to finals, and having 3,4, and 5 is huge! Coppells show is amazing, and I’m so excited to see where all these bands go this season. Quote
Popular Post LeanderMomma Posted October 26, 2021 Author Popular Post Posted October 26, 2021 Ok its been a few days since this incredible competition ended and I just wanted to say how happy I am to have had the opportunity to attend a good part of this Super Regional last Saturday. It was truly an amazing contest and I just had a few takeaways for you all. If you are a Texas HS band obsessed fan like myself and you think that the San Antonio Super Regional is the only place to watch incredible bands, you’re wrong. Yes Texas is extremely blessed to have outstanding high school marching bands all in one state, but we should never discount the talent there is in the rest of the country. I was blown away on Saturday by all of the talented groups I saw! Broken Arrow is even more incredible live than they are on a livestream or video recording. I have never seen them in person before and I’m so glad I finally got the chance to do so. This year’s show is just fantastic. Think CTJ mixed with Ronald Reagan mixed with Flower Mound. It’s absolutely brilliant and I can’t wait to see it again in Indianapolis next month. They could very well take the eagle, but even if they don’t, this show is one you won’t easily forget. I now understand why some prominent Texas bands choose to go outside the state to compete. It was incredible getting to see Coppell, Prosper, Southlake Carroll and James Martin compete in a non Texas setting. These four bands REALLY performed brilliantly in the Dome and they showed up ready to excel. In fact, Coppell scored a bronze medal in finals with their gorgeous carousel show, and Prosper and Carroll finished right behind them in 4th and 5th place respectively. James Martin was just a fraction of a point behind the 14th finalist band, and I honestly felt that they should have been in finals. It was a great showing for Texas and it was great getting to see these bands competing against so many other talented groups from outside the state. I also felt like I appreciated them more by NOT seeing them up against the other Texas bands in San Antonio. I definitely gained a new perspective on them. I am so grateful to have seen so many amazing bands outside of Texas and I look forward to seeing them again in the coming years. Some of my personal nonTexas favorites from Saturday besides Broken Arrow were: 1). Mustang HS, Oklahoma; that shark show was the most fun and crowd pleasing marching show I have frankly ever witnessed! 2). Bentonville HS, Arkansas, my newly adopted high school band now that we live in NW Arkansas. And wow, their show this year is as good as a great many I’ve seen in Texas. They need to go to the San Antonio Super! 3). Camdenton HS, Missouri; this small 2A band is just astonishingly good. I was so disappointed that they missed out on finals by a narrow margin. 4). Lincoln HS, SD; this show about a chess game and queens & kings was absolutely brilliant and arguably nearly as much of a crowd pleaser as Mustang was. Just wow. I can’t wait to see some of these great bands again in a few weeks at Grand Nationals in Indianapolis and to again have the opportunity to experience some phenomenal marching bands who happen to be from states other than Texas. Oh, and GO TEAM TEXAS! 😍❤️😉 gregorydf01, Tubalord11, BandFan59 and 1 other 4 Quote

It's disappointing and you're 100% spot on...this is not the place for it. I'm not a Marcus parent but I've said it before on this board...the Marcus parents set the standard (for me and my wife) for supporting other bands when I got started with my oldest many years ago and had no idea what was going on. We were in the stands during a contest back in 2011 or 2012 and the group of Marcus parents gave every...single...band a standing ovation no matter the size of the band or quality of the performance. Why? Because they know this is about each kid who has devoted hundreds of hours to learning a show and it didn't matter if they finished 1st or 31st...they deserved recognition for their effort and hard work. This is band, folks....lighten up! box5sop, LeanderMomma, VinoGirl and 2 others 5 Quote
