I really enjoyed the closer at BOA Austin, so I'm curious to see how different everything has changed since then Quote

But again, I'll add that since I heard it from students it could be iffy information. Quote
Band2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 We need to see the sheets but Cedar Ridge was fantastic their musical execution was rivaling reagan. Quote

Max Nieves Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 There‘s no placement announcements in prelims. It’s in finals where we will know the placements and scores. Now is when the bands needs to perform, now it’s the real deal. ViewFromTheBox 1 Quote
BandFan95 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 I want to see the prelim sheets. I heard about some crazy placements by a judge. 😀 Quote
Nny14 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Well the judges sure agreed on Round Rock! That might be the first time I've seen a consistent placement across all 5 judges in UIL! Quote
jmj Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Wow! Maybe the least crazy of the prelims sheets we’ve seen today so far. Parkwoodmom 1 Quote

BandFan59 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Wow, CTJ was first by a fair margin. Very impressive given how difficult and demanding their show is! Opposites Attract is probably my favorite production of any band this season so I'm really hoping for it to score well for the rest of the season. Quote
FaultLineBlues Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Dang, I'm sad about how much CTJ has to cut for UIL. Quote

Expand I can't speak to the why, but my memory tells me they drop the 8 minute (I think this is the correct number) performance time limit for finals. I haven't dug through all the rules, and it could have changed of course. There is still a "total time" to get on the field, perform, and get off the field which I believe is 15 minutes. Quote

Expand my understanding is a 15 minute window, they enter the field 5 minutes before the clock starts - many will start their show at 2 minutes prior to the clock and band announcement. but they have an 8 minute judging window - exceeding that window is major penalty or a DQ (not sure which) and then exit the field. as many programs that do pre-shows and have a full 12 minute show, you don't want to risk the fault early on - it is tough on the DM's and the students to have a cold start for UIL and then go back to their BOA start next week. Hope the finals goes well for all the programs tonight Quote
BandFan59 Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 Marching shows nowadays are nearly all longer than 8 minutes. UIL really needs to either increase the time limit to something like 10 minutes or just get rid of it altogether and give bands 15 minutes to get on, perform, and get off like BOA does. CTJBandPops 1 Quote
ViewFromTheBox Posted October 31, 2021 Posted October 31, 2021 I know a number of years ago it was 5 to get on and get set and then 10 to perform and get off the field. Wonder if they’ll ever go back to that. Quote
