LeanderMomma Posted October 17, 2021 Posted October 17, 2021 Not sure why there isn’t a thread for 5A - Area H considering it contains the current reigning 5A state champion and several other hopeful medalists this year. I’m disappointed that only 3 bands from this area can move on due to only 19 bands who got a 1. Reminds me of 6A Area H in 2018 when there were only three slots. What a mess that was when the bad judges rule came in to play. Quote

Popular Post BandFan59 Posted October 17, 2021 Popular Post Posted October 17, 2021 Leander, Cedar Park, and Rouse will advance to state and I don't think there are any major threats to them at the moment. Those three are way ahead of everyone else here, which makes it all the more unfortunate that this area didn't get a 4th spot for state. LeanderMomma, BaritoneBallah and lost 3 Quote

lost Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 It’s honestly super unfortunate for this area not to be taking 4. LISD was so close to having every single one of their schools qualify to state. BaritoneBallah 1 Quote

FEDude Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Considering how often LISD schools hop between 5A and 6A, I don't think any "collusion" could be happening. If there was collusion, I'm sure they would've coordinated for Leander or CP to be 6A and had every LISD school have a high chance at moving on. As we know, though, school numbers aren't dictated by 1 extra curricular (except maybe football, that one can get pretty corrupt). One day LISD might not be a powerhouse anymore. Maybe area G will be the next super competitive area that produces national level bands and UIL will redraw the maps to ensure the best bands aren't all lumped together. Quote
propsquaddad Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 It's tough when you have a school district like Leander ISD that has 6 high schools, and 5 of them are ranked in the top 20 Nationally. The only way to even something like that out in the UIL system would be to split the school district between 2 areas and I'd don't think UIL can even do that. BaritoneBallah 1 Quote

lhbenlee Posted October 22, 2021 Posted October 22, 2021 Balancing quality is a part of the equation but also keep in mind that the state population continues to grow significantly. More people means more students, more schools, more bands, more regions, areas, etc... Quote

Here's the reality of how area H got to where it is and what the near future is: Leander High School heard many years ago that UIL was going to come along and have different regions and areas. They then put forth a plan to wait for the initial area's to be devised but still wait and see how population was going to increase. All the time they were planting seeds that they wanted to have all of their school advance in marching band competitions with the UIL. UIL then agreed that as soon as they got enough schools built that UIL would create an area the would almost ensure that the bands would advance while ensuring that other districts in the area would not invest nearly as much as LISD promised. This would ensure that LISD would take over area and give an easy route to state for each of their schools. I heard the next phase is that LISD south bands won't even need to march or play in a few years in order to make state. Once this goes live they are going to award the state title to LISD then have a state contest for 2nd place and down for 5A and 6A.🤔 ViewFromTheBox, BaritoneBallah, Samuel Culper and 1 other 1 3 Quote
