Not sure why there isn’t a thread for 5A - Area H considering it contains the current reigning 5A state champion and several other hopeful medalists this year. I’m disappointed that only 3 bands from this area can move on due to only 19 bands who got a 1. Reminds me of 6A Area H in 2018 when there were only three slots. What a mess that was when the bad judges rule came in to play.

Leander, Cedar Park, and Rouse will advance to state and I don't think there are any major threats to them at the moment. Those three are way ahead of everyone else here, which makes it all the more unfortunate that this area didn't get a 4th spot for state.

Yes I absolutely would love to have seen a fourth spot open. 19!  So close!!

Rouse got the prime prelim slot. I agree, Cedar Park, Leander, Rouse move on unless one of them completely falls apart. Glenn probably will finish 4th...

It’s honestly super unfortunate for this area not to be taking 4. LISD was so close to having every single one of their schools qualify to state.

Interesting, can’t help but wonder perhaps that’s why this area was created. 🤔

Considering how often LISD schools hop between 5A and 6A, I don't think any "collusion" could be happening.

If there was collusion, I'm sure they would've coordinated for Leander or CP to be 6A and had every LISD school have a high chance at moving on. As we know, though, school numbers aren't dictated by 1 extra curricular (except maybe football, that one can get pretty corrupt).

One day LISD might not be a powerhouse anymore. Maybe area G will be the next super competitive area that produces national level bands and UIL will redraw the maps to ensure the best bands aren't all lumped together.

It's tough when you have a school district like Leander ISD that has 6 high schools, and 5 of them are ranked in the top 20 Nationally. The only way to even something like that out in the UIL system would be to split the school district between 2 areas and I'd don't think UIL can even do that.

The UIL does split school districts (take a look at Cy-Fair ISD), but I don't think the TMEA does, which is what matters in this instance.

Balancing quality is a part of the equation but also keep in mind that the state population continues to grow significantly. More people means more students, more schools, more bands, more regions, areas, etc...

Are you trying to imply that Leander ISD corroborated with UIL to get into this area?

Expand

Leander wasn't the reason this area was created. They were just needed to make this work for someone else. You would need to know a lot about UIL politics and history to know why this happened.

5A UIL Area H Finals Order

1 - 6:00 Tivy
2 - 6:15 Champion
3 - 6:30 Liberty Hill
4 - 6:45 Glenn
5 - 7:00 Cedar Park
6 - 7:15 Leander
7 - 7:30 Rouse

Thank You! Glad to see Tivy made it into finals, but it will be tough for them since Cedar Park, Leander, and Rouse all perform back to back. This will be a good one!
