TRtrumpet Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Im arranging a song and I was wondering what would be "to high" to for high school clarinet players. I know a clarinet has a higher range than other woodwinds like the alto and stuff. Do yall ever go higher than the C above the staff? Quote
Xenon Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 Good highschool clarinets go higher than that quite often; all the way to the G above that in some cases (in Bb of course). Depending upon your desired difficulty, though, I wouldn't spend too much time up there since it takes a really strong player to sustain control over that range. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 1, 2006 Author Posted January 1, 2006 darn I didnt know they could go that high, well im pretty sure our 2 first clarinets can handle it. They play in the high register all the time... our seconds.... well i'll just write there part low. Why can alto's go that high? Quote
itsstephenyo Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 they can. have u heard of altissimo?? u can actually get up to a double F above the staff... think high F.... up an octave. i can get about about a double D# Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 2, 2006 Author Posted January 2, 2006 Yea but we have to use altissamo. They do it naturally. Quote
itsstephenyo Posted January 2, 2006 Posted January 2, 2006 hahah i wouldnt call the screeching clarinet natural. more like otherwordly or alien. Quote

TRtrumpet Posted January 3, 2006 Author Posted January 3, 2006 High, out of tune clarinets.. are the worst. Out out of tune saxes are pretty band to... Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted January 4, 2006 Posted January 4, 2006 The highest note I can get to without thinking about it is high G..I think it's the highest G in there, but don't mark my words. And yep, high clarinets that are out of tune are the worst..I know from personal experience Quote
cookie_monster Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Technically I think a clarinet can go to a C above the high G. I have a fingering chart for it, but I've never heard a high schooler play higher than a G. But I don't think it's impossible. Quote
Xenon Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Wow, I just found a great site: The Woodwind Fingering Guide It has a ton of stuff, including a Clarinet Altissimo Fingering Chart shows all the way up to the 3rd A above the staff and Saxaphone Altissimo Fingerings up to the 3rd D above the staff! Quote
mnkyman Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 i can go to a b or c above that high g on the bass clarinet (lol throat tones..) (thats what their called) Quote
TRtrumpet Posted January 17, 2006 Author Posted January 17, 2006 Were playing "Highschool Cadets" or something like that (Its a Sousa march) and the clarinets are screaching up wayyyy in the high octave the ENTIRE time. It makes me laugh seeing them freak out of those notes. Quote

It is a perfect technique for improves, so I had to teach myself this in order to be "impressive". How I learned this was I was grounded for 6 monthes in 8th grade..and learned everything about the clarinet. I pretty much did all my research on that darn thing. :-p Nerd? But what can I say? 6th monthes!!!! What else is there to do? Quote

It is...since my last post on this topic, I learned how to play a high A..actually, I was forced to play it, thanks to the "Elegy for a Young American" song we got not too long ago. But I still sound horrible on that note Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 13, 2006 Author Posted February 13, 2006 We have a song right now that is called "The High school cadets" its forcing our clarinets to HORRIBLY go out of thier range.. bleh. Quote

I actually I been able to play a highest note in the Bb Clarinet instrument back in high school. Quote

I didn't mean to sound so.....limiting I guess with my comment about the range. I do know some people that are able to play higher but the majority that I've seen have only been able to get out a G. But of course tone quality on that note is a COMPLETELY different thing. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 18, 2006 Posted February 18, 2006 High notes on a clarinet = worse than nails on a chalkboard Quote
cookie_monster Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 I totally agree!! Especially really bad out of tune high notes. lol Quote
themainclarinet Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 Not to mention if the reed is bad.....YUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There is one clarinet at my school that can play just about anything Cookie_monster, I think we can agree on who this person is....ahem Quote
cookie_monster Posted February 22, 2006 Posted February 22, 2006 I agree but I think there's 2. Quote
x04ty29er Posted May 4, 2006 Posted May 4, 2006 i have hit the 3 c above the staff, but it was not controlled. The highest note I can control and hit consistantly is (get this) the 2nd d above the staff. Quote
