mnkyman Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 just wondering..if anyone knew any info on bands going to gran nats this year Quote
manuel_pablo Posted January 6, 2006 Posted January 6, 2006 I don't know but maybe SFA, The Woodlands, and Churchill? Quote
bariphonium Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 I wouldn't expect Churchill to go; they seem to have been more Regional and UIL-State oriented the past couple of years. SFA and Woodlands seem to go on the same years as State (which makes no sense to me, but it's not my band to say), so I guess it might be safe to assume that they would go. I think we'll have to wait 'till summer, though, to see who's going. Sounds like someone's got a case of "I WANT MARCHING SEASON!" syndrome. Quote
mnkyman Posted January 7, 2006 Author Posted January 7, 2006 WOO HOOO MARCHING SEASON>> but no really.. Texas will have a larger # than usual of bands there.. hopefully dominating finals !!! Quote
mbui Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 A tentative list of bands should be up on the BOA website in the next month or so. Quote
manuel_pablo Posted January 7, 2006 Posted January 7, 2006 A tentative list of bands should be up on the BOA website in the next month or so. I just hope they don't keep us waiting like last year. X_X Quote
Fortisimo Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 It's gonna be a state year so yeah... I figure that factors heavily into the decision, most likely in the negative direction. Quote
mbui Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 I remember back in 2002, a 5A State year, when six Texas bands attended BOA Grand Nationals. Haltom HS Ronald Reagan HS Spring HS Stephen F. Austin HS The Woodlands HS Winston Churchill HS The six Texas bands in 2002 still holds as the highest number bands from Texas that have gone to Grand Nationals at the same time. I'm really happy to see bands from our state attending on a consistent basis. Quote
iplayband07 Posted January 15, 2006 Posted January 15, 2006 the reason we (the woodlands) go on state years is because the district only allows us to take the entire band on out of state trips every two years. Quote
QuadraticBeats Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I don't care who goes to Grand Nationals, just as long as a Texas band wins first! And if not, then at least we tried. I think it'd be cool if an underdog with the odds against them won, also. Quote
dantheman Posted January 16, 2006 Posted January 16, 2006 I bet that James Bowie will be going also. Quote
G'townPIT Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I bet that James Bowie will be going also. how come? has bowie ever gone to nationals? i know they went to the fiesta bowl last year and everything... Quote
mbui Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 No, James Bowie has never gone. I've also heard from several people that James Bowie is considering attending BOA Grand Nationals this fall. Bruce Dinkins, Bowie's head director, used to take his former band (Irmo HS of South Carolina) to Grand Nationals all the time. The James Bowie band program has made tremendous strides over the past five years. I hope Dinkins rewards the students and the entire organization with a trip to Grand Nationals. They deserve it. Quote
elementwrx Posted January 18, 2006 Posted January 18, 2006 Actually Dinkins never took Irmo to Grand Nats...They went in 92, the year before he got there, and then in 2001 the year after he left. This would be the first time that Mr. Dinkins would be taking a band himself to Indy And being in the program, I can't say yes or no to if they would be going becuase no official announcement has been made (just talk from the directors about going). I'd wait until the official list is posted to see. Quote

elementwrx Posted January 20, 2006 Posted January 20, 2006 Ah, wow...I had missed that becuase they didn't make finals any of those years. I didn't know back then only 10 bands made finals (at least in 96 it was like that)...Seems like in 96 Irmo missed finals by one spot. Thanks for clearing it up Quote
titancoaster Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Its official the Connally Cougar Marching Band is going to Grand Nationals in 2006! I can not wait, I am so happy! Quote
mbui Posted February 3, 2006 Posted February 3, 2006 Wow, Texas will be well repesented once again. From what I know so far.... Cypress Falls HS Haltom HS* James Bowie HS John B. Connally HS L.D. Bell HS* Sugar Land: Stephen F. Austin HS* The Woodlands HS Winston Churchill HS* * - not confirmed, but word has it that Grand Nationals is a possibility. Also, it's good to see a 4A Texas band taking a trip and competing at BOA Grand Nationals. You'll definitely get a lot of experience under your belt. Quote
