You don't qualify. All you do is fill out the application and turn it in. The first 90 bands to turn in the application get to participate.

John B. Connally was appointed to be the 61st Secretary of the Treasury by President Nixon and was also Governor of Texas in 1962.

John B. Connally HS is located in Pflugerville, TX (Austin area). They are a 4A school and were Finalists at the 2003 & 2005 State Marching Band Championships and at the 2004 Bands of America Huntsville, TX Regional Championships.

Awesome! I saw you guys on the Grand Nationals list at TMEA so it's good that it's not a fluke.

Expect to see me and some of the Txbands.com people at Grand Nationals because we'll have a special present for your band and the rest of the Texas bands representing!!

Hey everyone! Sorry for my long absence from the forums, but with a robbery the day of UIL State this year (including the loss of my computer), I've been in limbo for a bit.

However, on behalf of the Connally Band, I'd like to thank everyone for their supporting our decision to compete at Grand Nationals in 2006. It certainly is a big move for our band (considering we've only just made State finals our past two runs and never even attempted the Super Regional), but I think it will definitely give us a good deal of experience. If Danpod is right about the Texas schools attending, a whopping eight schools will be attending, setting a new record!

Like titancoaster was saying (sad to say this guy is in my band and I don't know who he is on the forums right now), we're looking to stay on a level equal to the 5A schools we'll be seeing, and we are getting new uniforms, although pictures, descriptions, and the related like are all under wraps as the design process is still happening.

Lastly, although I know what Mr. Portillo told us the show would be, I wouldn't be surprised if the theme or title changes, so I will also keep that secret, but I'll leave you with this one hint: it's about us.

Thanks for your support, again!

First of all, I am glad to see the positive feedback. Thank you for your continued support.

Personally, I am thrilled to be apart of the first 4A band from Texas to be competing at Grand Nationals come November. It could have been any other 4A band and I would be just as proud of them to represent Texas as much as Connally hopes to do.

I think that what has been set before our band is a big step and will be something great for our program no matter the outcome. Of course, we hope to do well and possibly give other big name/5A schools a "run for their money" as titancoaster so brilliantly put, but I also realize that BOA is blind to UIL divisions and that we are now competing at the same level. I don

While it seems that the BOA classifications are little top heavy these days, you have to remember that they are not intended to match or line up with any State system...it is more of a nationwide sampling.

Regardless, when at a BOA event, everyone is mixed up in performance orders anyway (prelims and semis), so no matter what class you are in you are judged in relation to every other band in competition regardless of class.

Side note....there is much talk in Indiana about the potential record number of Texas bands going to GN this year. :)

I do believe Richland was 4A when they attended Grand Nats in 2002. But I could be mistaken.
