GeekBoy54 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Very nice job from Westlake! Very expressive jazz motifs and high-energy throughout the show, especially at the end. I think it's very possible we'll see them again Saturday night. Tubalord11 1 Quote
Tubalord11 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Westlake… wow!!! What a fun yet complicated show! The clarinet soloist is just so good, and the ensemble can play so well! They look incredible as well!!! Probably a finalist! Great job Westlake! Quote
Origin Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Wow! Westlake does not want to be first out again this year! Love everything about their show. Clarinets went off. Marchingbandperson and Tubalord11 2 Quote

Expand Well then. I guess it's a good thing that judging is no longer done on a demerit basis. I was sitting on the 50 3/4ths of the way up and my tin ears couldn't hear any full band tuning issues. Poor Vista Ridge, I guess they aren't going to beat a clean Westlake to finals this year. cjm715 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 This is the best year for Westlake in a long time. I'm really happy to see them back to competing at a very high level. What a great show. Marchingbandperson and tamago1 2 Quote
packwick Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 watchin' on hi cam. Cedar Ridge solid performance, a little bit o visual dirt here and there, but pretty locked in musically. still feel like the design is a bit simple, but that's prob just my tastes. Vista Ridge, super layered production, cool music, overall not as clean as i'd hoped. i also felt like the energy level dropped every time they weren't playing a long chord. given the challenges it makes sense. Westlake, that's gotta be some of the best clarinet playing ever on the field. great music. super enjoyable. love the voiceover, is that the guy from the Cadets? not super clean visually, but some cool stuff in there. finals worthy. actually i probably like Westlake's music more than both of the Ridges, which surprises me. more character. justabandkid94 1 Quote

BandFan59 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 The bands that have gone so far have all been really good. I think Vista Ridge might have been the best so far for me, though it's very close between them and Cedar Ridge. Also wanted to give a shout out to Pflugerville for playing Firebird! I love that piece and thought their rendition was great. Sidenote, it looks like a monsoon outside in Dallas. Don't know what it's like in the rest of the state but I hope the DFW bands performing tomorrow have already left because I certainly would not want to be driving in this weather. Quote

Band2021 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 for me its also close for the bands that have went so far Cedar Ridge - Vista Ridge Westlake Dripping Springs JBA Pflugerville Quote
justabandkid94 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Is Vandervolff designing for VR now, or was that just a comparison being made earlier in this thread? Definitely evokes his work. Mesmerizing stuff. Ballsy kids. Love it Unrelated, one of my favorite Westlake shows to date. 🔥 Quote

LostChoirGuy Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 So far my top picks are: Vista Ridge Cedar Ridge Westlake Bowie Dripping Springs Quote
Band2021 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 I sadly missed Bowie trying to watch while working from home so missed a few sadly. I miss the days when I was a kid marching out there lol! Quote
peshbandkid Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 So far, my ranks would have to be 1. Vista Ridge (This show has grown so much over the season) 2. CEDAR-FREAKING-RIDGE (enough said) 3. Bowie (I really love their sound this year) 4. Dripping Springs (Kaval Sviri is such a great piece) 5. JBA-Westlake (Both were fantastic!) quenslays 1 Quote
Popular Post GeekBoy54 Posted November 4, 2022 Popular Post Posted November 4, 2022 Round Rock was superb! The way they've experimented with the Rite of Spring is one of the best I've heard a high school put it on the field. For me, they are a finalist for sure! TLoz, Nny14, Zil and 1 other 4 Quote
Tubalord11 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 RR will be in finals!!! That show was just fantastic!!! I mean wow! And that low brass is so !!! TLoz and Nny14 2 Quote
LostChoirGuy Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 I thought Round Rock was excellent. I have them right up there with Cedar Ridge and Vista Ridge. Nny14 and TLoz 2 Quote
Origin Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Box 5 high cam cutting away from Round Rock because they were too powerful. That was excellent! Probably my favorite from them since 2016. The front flats are very reminiscent of their 2013 show. Maybe a little lacking in GE here and there (I wish the show told more of a story), but they were very clean until the closer. I expect to see them again tomorrow! Zil and Hard Core Band Fan 1 1 Quote
Band2021 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Round Rock is so clean which is great! Musically they are so on it this year! so happy for them I was a bit worried as their recent shows have not been my favorites but this year it looks like they are finding their footing. Only issue is GE I am thinking that they are targeting UIL and that's why it is a bit on the low side. TLoz 1 Quote
