GE does way too much I think though. It should probably be less. To be fair, you saw that same duplication before they did. The really good bands in Texas have really good years under both systems. Sure we’ve seen some duplication, it is worth noting this is a newer trend but you’re right in that amazing bands will usually make finals in both with no issue. Quote

FaultLineBlues Posted November 5, 2022 Posted November 5, 2022 Maybe this is just my opinion, but it is kinda interesting that I had looked at this year as maybe a changing of the guard in the finalist sphere, but things seem to be very similar to usual. Quote

DCI's 30-30-40 split is pretty good, and when I applied it to the most recent San Antonio, placements and scores saw relatively small changes lost 1 Quote

BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Cedar Park starting off finals with a bang! Another very good production that I think is even better than the one they had last year. Lots of powerful sounds from the brass throughout the entire show and beautiful soloists, especially that saxophone feature in the closer which was excellent. I do wish there was a little more dynamic contrast, as it is mostly just very loud the entire show, but this is something that has applied to a LOT of bands at San Antonio this year so it's not a huge issue. I really hope they go back to Grand Nationals soon, it's far overdue for them. Tubalord11 1 Quote
Rubisco Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Is that the best opening to the SA Super Regional ever from Cedar Park just now? Yes, they blast, but it's still somehow so balanced and clear! I was going to criticize them for maybe not being nuanced, but they've got that, too. That ballad is really delicate in parts, before it swells again and knocks us off our feet. Maybe there could be even more shades, even more color? I don't know, but I am very, very impressed! Tubalord11 and Dallas Hobbs 2 Quote
Band2021 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 I predict: 1. Hebron 2. The Woodlands 3. Reagan 4. Vandegrift 5. CTJ 6. Flower Mound 7. Vista Ridge 8. Cedar Ridge 9. Marcus 10. Cedar Park 11. Coppell 12. Keller 13. Round Rock 14. Pearland Quote
An Inspirational Pinecone Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 The jump the Woodlands predictions made from prelims to finals is insane.. before it was anywhere from 7th to 11th and now they're sitting in 2nd. Reminds me of 2016 when Flower Mound played my favorite show oat and swept captions. Quote
lost Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 That field judge was a little too close and was trapped by those props! Quote
Rubisco Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 I could take a nice warm bath in that Marcus sound. It's divine, isn't it? They've got some of the best everything, but I'd like to single out the woodwinds for a change. Fantastic! VinoGirl 1 Quote
BandFan59 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Marcus is just supremely talented when it comes to individual performances. Those woodwinds in the opener were crazy good with the amount of runs they had. Always enjoy watching them perform, they bring a more delicate and subtle sound compared to a lot of bands in the state. Quote
Band2021 Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 Marcus never misses they are musically gifted the dome was so quite! Probably captivated I know I was! Quote
