Band2021 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Ahhh yes La Rosa gorgeous show....they should have won music to! Lol one of the most powerful ballads in BOA history literally almost blew the roof off! Quote

Besides Leander winning BOA Austin 2015 with no captions, I don't believe it's ever happened again. Rubisco 1 Quote
Rubisco Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Carmel in 2012 is probably the best comparison here, since the same band won the other 2 captions. Cedar Ridge would have to be Broken Arrow 2012 in this situation, which I would be shocked to see. Similar situation in 2006 at BOA SA. Marcus won music and GE and got 3rd because of their visual score. More band trivia! Band2021 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Lake Travis....that was a big step forward and well performed this evening. Nice job! Quote
MikeKyu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Is BOX 5 down for anyone else? At least I got to see the first 5 seconds of Foster then got to watch them walk off the field. Bravo BOX5. Quote

Popular Post Band2021 Posted October 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 2, 2022 Cedar Ridge is electric so much energy in such a small group! Each performance gets stronger they are fighting hard to walk away with gold. Good job! FaultLineBlues, HeyBandTX, Parkwoodmom and 1 other 4 Quote
Popular Post BandFan59 Posted October 2, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 2, 2022 That will be a tough performance to top. Cedar Ridge's music performance is exceptional, but I have to give a shoutout to their color guard and percussion. They really nailed that performance, especially the feature in the middle. BandMom75 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Cedar Ridge’s brass sound is amazing! They will be tough to beat for sure. HeyBandTX 1 Quote

MikeKyu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Yes, Cy-Fair's use of uniforms and color is fantastic. What a cool show visually. FaultLineBlues 1 Quote
BandFan59 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Not the best run from CTJ, looks like they were having some electronic issues as the first soloists in the opener couldn't be heard at all. Despite that, I think they had a really good run musically, managing to nail some pretty difficult technical passages. The tenor sax soloist is very talented. I also have to say this ballad is starting to grow on me the more I listen to it; I really love the big hit once the vocalists come together. Visually it was a little bit dirty, you can tell that they haven't had as much time to polish as they would have liked. Don't think they'll win tonight (could be wrong of course) but given that they still have more to add I think they'll be just fine for the rest of the season. Tubalord11 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 It is really weird to see CTJ not performing an entire show. Another weird thing is that for the second year in a row I'm not completely thrown by their arrangements. This show has high potential and should develop very nicely. I can't help but think to myself (see what I did there) if they aren't gunning for a UIL championship instead of BOA greatness this year. They will do just fine in both contests. Great run CTJ! Band2021 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Agreed, the competition is tough tonight. A few years back there was always a clear winner but now bands have to expect that other groups are becoming stronger and harder to beat. LeanderMomma 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Oh boy! This contest! Top 3 is close. I think that Cedar Ridge is going to end up on top. Quote
lost Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I do think Reagan still has visual but Cedar Ridge will probably take the win. CTJ is a favorite for third or fourth. Fun contest! Quote

Expand Very close! It's hard because when you look at both Reagan and CR they are 2 completely separate groups. Different sizes and styles but both fantastic it will be tough Quote
lost Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 I’m feeling, 1. Cedar Ridge (Music, GE) 2. Ronald Reagan (Visual) 3.Claudia Taylor Johnson 4. Cy-Fair 5. Stephen F. Austin 6. Seven Lakes 7. Pearland 8. Lake Travis 9. Friendswood 10. Foster 11. Cypress Woods 12. Oak Ridge Quote
BandFan59 Posted October 2, 2022 Posted October 2, 2022 Reagan was really good tonight, a better run than prelims I think. They have some moments like the rotating woodwind and brass frontfield/backfield playing that's quite cool, and the technical demand of the show is impressive. The preshow is very cool, maybe my favorite one so far this season. It's a tough one for me between them and Cedar Ridge tonight, but I think I'll have to go with Cedar Ridge, with CTJ behind them both. MikeKyu 1 Quote
