Samuel Culper Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Vandy is fantastic, as always. That opener reinforces to me, however, how much I dislike voice-overs. At least it's relatively brief. MikeKyu 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I just finished watching Cedar Park. This is the highest GE show they have done since 2016. They sound great and are ready for tomorrow. Video will be posted when I get home. peshbandkid and josephbandfan 2 Quote
Popular Post MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2022 Cedar Park is ready. The GE ideas don't translate well on my video. Seeing this in person is impactful. https://youtu.be/fYm-vAOVWgY packwick, justabandkid94 and josephbandfan 3 Quote
josephbandfan Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Did some internet surfing to find more recent performances and sheeesh have these shows grown a ton. I personally would be very surprised if Vandy doesn't win this comp. Quote

justabandkid94 Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I totally nerded out over Daft Punk’s score when Tron: Legacy first came out, so seeing a program like Vandegrift field this source music is stuff of dreams for me. The Adagio for Tron is an obvious standout from the film, and practically feels written-for-the-field with its huge moments and aching beauty. I do wish Vandy’s ballad gave the piece a liiiitle more room to breathe and develop (obvious time constraints), but whatever gripes I have will get drowned out by the glorious backfield playing in the Alamodome FWIW- the voiceover is abridged from the movie. MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Gheez Vandy. The tone of the flutist and the trombone duet. Both have the same timbre to their sound. To have a group that large play with so much control and balance is incredible. Quote
packwick Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 i feel like if i watched Cedar Park live i'd end up like Linda Hamilton in Terminator 2 when she has that dream of the atomic bomb going off and her skin is blown off and her skeleton is clinging to the fence. hahaha. but less of a negative experience, obviously. Expand The mirrors are used to great effect. They are not only used to reflect but they are also using them to hide and "reappear." When they blow out the guard with double flags, in person you get overwhelmed with color and movement. It's gonna be fun watching this show progress. As I said before, I think this is the best Cedar Park show since their last Grand Nats run. I wasn't too high on that show this early in the season (I know, different director). Quote
josephbandfan Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 My favorite CP show is still 2015. Happy to see them back on the rise after their little dip. Quote
Vidal28 Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I’ll echo many folks’ sentiments about Cedar Park, from that far of a vantage point, in the video we were showed from tonight’s performance, it feels like they’ve elevated their music performance SEVERAL notches!! Incredibly, incredibly solid/impressive to where I feel only a few schools will be able to match their clarity and power by November based on where they already are now. I have no qualms putting them as a clear medalist/potential winner at this contest and bare minimum top half at BOA SA finals RIGHT NOW. Only going up from there, but that’s my prediction of their floor for me👀👀 Quote
Popular Post FaultLineBlues Posted September 24, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2022 Big day ahead! Very excited to see all of these students perform in person today, I hope every single one of them had a performance they're proud of, and the audience rewards them for it. It's a truly fulfilling experience getting to perform in front of a crowd that's there to appreciate the art. If you're a parent there to watch your kid today, I implore you to stick around and watch some more programs! You'll get to see some awesome performances, and be another set of hands that claps for a student whose parents couldn't make it out. lost, Tubalord11 and MikeKyu 3 Quote
lost Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Rough draw for Weiss! They’re definitely finalist caliber as we all know, but we’ve lost more than a few bands to that early morning draw before. Hoping they set the tone and make it in. Quote

Popular Post MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Popular Post Posted September 24, 2022 Well Harker Heights, nice job. That show was a huge step forward for the organization. Nice work! SleepySeal, BrassMamacita and ReveriesOp24 3 Quote
MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Tom C. Clark - this is a well executed show and a great music selection. Every block has a surprise and for me, this is it. Quote
MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 This is why I hate amplification on the field. I hope this delay doesn't sink Cedar Park this morning. Quote
Origin Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Cedar Park setting the standard this morning! They look to be building off the success of last season, but this time with a stronger conceptual theme. There is sooo much great choreo reinforcing the theme. The ballad was definitely a stand-out moment. There’s a bit of a mysterious vibe through the show that I really enjoy. FaultLineBlues 1 Quote
Origin Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 Vista Ridge was great! Starting with just horns is so difficult and they handle that challenge flawlessly. So many great soloists adding different textures and layers. The drill and staging is really interesting as well. Tubalord11 1 Quote
MikeKyu Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I agree. Not sure why people are so down on Vista Ridge this season. They looked and sounded phenomenal. I love the movement around props. You can tell that show was designed with UIL in mind. Lots of hand offs and features. Quote

BandFan95 Posted September 24, 2022 Posted September 24, 2022 I really love how Dripping Springs uniforms pop. Plus I love the white band shoes. I get why everyone goes darker with the shoes, but the white just stands out. Quote
