Rouse: The attention to detail in the design is always top notch! Everything is so perfectly tailored to the strengths of the band. The show flows extremely well for this point in the season.

I missed Vandy to watch The Woodlands. Did the light up stuff work?

Yep, they changed colors between movements. Thought Vandy was very strong, some great technical passages in there that aren't quite crispy clean yet but still performed well. The demand of the show is quite high and they performed it very well. Barring an insane performance from Vista, I'd say they're probably the winner for me tonight.

Currently based on what I've have seen I think finals goes like this:

Vandegrift

Cedar Park

Cedar Ridge

Round Rock

Vista Ridge

Rouse

But its hard to really say! Vandegrift is no doubt 1st based on overall performance.

My first time watching Vista since a very early season video and wow did they impress. Very loud and full sounds, nice cleanliness visually. I don't remember the name of the source material for their opener but I know that Leander played it in 2016 and that's one of my favorite shows of all time, so that's a big plus for me. My personal rankings after seeing everyone would be:

  1. Vandegrift (M/GE)
  2. Cedar Park (V)
  3. Cedar Ridge
  4. Vista Ridge
  5. Round Rock
  6. Rouse
  7. Westlake
  8. Leander
  9. Hendrickson
  10. James Bowie
  11. Westwood
  12. Lake Travis

Primacy of number by Phillip glass, love that piece.

I agree! This is my top 6 in this order, too

I love Leander, but I did see this coming. That run really wasn’t amazing, a lot of park and bark and the show doesn’t have the flow to garner much GE favor.

I am concerned. I trust they’ll improve, but when I saw that performance it really did worry me.

Cedar Ridge! It’s going to be a close year. We won’t have a direct Cedar Ridge v Vandegrift matchup until BOA San Antonio so it’s going to be a very fun rollercoaster until then that’s for sure!

Congratulations to Vandy Bandy for 1st and a sweep but an extra congrats to CR, the highest they've ever placed at BoA Austin 🥲 I'm so excited for the rest of their season, especially with a gap that close.

My takeaways

1. Cedar Ridge is in a perfect position early this season! .55 behind Vandegrift bodes very well for them!

2. Round Rock bounced back from an awkward 2021 season! While the new uniforms are... different to say the least, I am glad to see them pushing ahead early!

3. I wasn't able to see Leander in prelims or finals, but their placement does concern me a little. I'm positive they will improve over the season, but I do wonder what put them in 12th

Definitely saw the placement coming when watching live. I’m sure they’ll bounce back. It’s the nature of the activity for programs to ebb and flow over the years through staff change and new identities. I know the staff and the students will work to refine the show to the absolute best of their ability.

that being said I’m not a huge fan of the design itself personally.

Leander had many issues but the main thing that hurts them is not being cohesive. The show seemed like it was mashed together and didn't really flow very well. I am interested to see what can be done to resolve this later in the season.
