Brandeis placing above Leander is a HUGE shock but they did perform EXTREMELY well!! Leander also had missing performers:( This however, does not undermine the performance quality of Brandeis. They had an amazing series of performances today!!!! Congratulations to all!!!

the beginning of vista's ascent? they were like 14th or something in ensemble vis at BOA Austin prelims. but they won visual here.

Vista did a massive amount of work this week and it really paid off for them. Well earned podium for The Ranger Band.

A great band night last night! A few things I will say: 

Vandegrift still very strong which is no surprise at all nothing really sticks out as a huge change but they are not moving back which is all you can hope for when your 1st place at each contest!

Ronald Reagan is doing better but you can tell that this show needs more refinement. Their show in my opinion is more demanding than any last night. When you have a maxed out design it can be hard to clean which will take time.

Vista Ridge huge improvement! I can see why they took visual they sound great as well, which really helps their placement. This show is obviously designed for UIL which is where I think they will prosper. GE wise not really there yet which will hurt them at BOA. If you look at Vandegrift and Reagan their guard really stands out. Vista for their size has a smaller guard than Cedar Ridge which really hurts them in GE. This is something you can't change in a season but I would recommend investment in that area next year.

First through sixth place during prelims were separated by 6 points and then the dropoff between 6th and 7th was another 5.6 points.  And then 7th through 13th were only separated by 3 points!  Very tight group in the middle of the pack.

Short answer - no. The gap actually grows a bit due to MGE carrying more weight.

I recalculated the scores into 20/20/40/20 format that BOA uses (note only 1 MGE score which is doubled in the final calculation. I list it here twice to account for it.):

thaaanks for this. i opted not to double the music effect judge bc it's kinda like inventing a judge who doesn't exist, who perfectly agrees w/ the one actual judge. but i was curious about this method as well. thanks for doing the work!
