Dave609 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 That time of the year again! Who will make it to State this year for Area I?!? Last year had some surprising results, and I can't wait to see what happens this year! Quote
ChristopherRoden Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 I think the first question to look at is how many programs they'll take from this area? Quote
aer06 Posted August 28, 2022 Posted August 28, 2022 If I remember correctly it's typically 4-5 depending on how region goes, last year they only took four but really either one is on the table for this year in my opinion Quote
RodneyHitchcock Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Small predictions with how area finals will come out Bridgeland 7 Lakes Cy -Woods Cy -Falls Cy -Fair James E. Taylor Cinco Ranch Jersey Village im not sure about 9th or 10th but obviously this all revolves on who makes it to area hopefully enough make it to have 5 spots instead of 4 Dave609 1 Quote
Guest Posted September 8, 2022 Posted September 8, 2022 Tompkins and Katy will likely round out finals. Quote
Dave609 Posted October 2, 2022 Author Posted October 2, 2022 so based on what I saw tonight, this Area is going to be a good one! I think we may see Cy-Fair finally return to state this year!!! Quote

I hope we get 5 bands to state this year. This Area Contest will be like no other. Next contest for Area I fans is Lone Star preview where we can see Bridgeland and Woods go at it. Dave609 1 Quote

Expand Yeah that’s why I mentioned it, don’t want to call them a lock because with area nobody is but they’re as close as they can get. I’d say the same for Bridgeland. I can see Jersey Village or Cypress Woods fighting it out and coming out third for one of those last few spots. Dave609 1 Quote

ChristopherRoden Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 I think 1 and 2 will definitely be close between bridgeland and Cy fair. 3-4 mostly likely between 7L and Cy woods. I would guess 5-8 is between Jordan, Jersey Village, Tompkins and JET. Knowing how Area has been judged in the past could throw a complete wrench in these predictions though! Bands that we thought would advance last year got placements that were never even thought of. Like I think people thought Tompkins would place 5th or 6th in Finals last year and they got 9th or 10th if I remember correctly. Quote
SEAstar23 Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 Looking at the Draw Order these are the most reasonable state spots: 1. Bridgeland (Clean) 2. Cypress Woods (Clean and Intriguing) 3. Jordan (Clean and Good Draw time) 4. Cy-Fair (Will perform First in Prelims and Finals) 5. Seven Lakes (Show will always be Dirty) 6. Tompkins (They Peak Late) Quote

FormerWildcat Posted October 14, 2022 Posted October 14, 2022 I'm pretty sure they compile a list of all the bands that attend region and just cut them out if they don't make a 1. Quote

They make a list of every band in each region of that specific area and then when every region is done, they just remove the non-qualifying bands out of that list thus, making the list the schedule. Expand It's still difficult to tell. The majority of the points they have gotten at the BOA regionals have been visual GE as their design is super on point this year. Haven't seen any recent videos but I could see Bridgeland, Cy Woods, or even Jordan slip ahead in the music or visual catagories. It also doesn't help that Cy Fair's draw time isnt quite the best. crunchycookie3 Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 First half of this area (Region 23) had region today! All 9 Katy Schools + Heights, Alief Taylor, Elsik, and Westside all advanced for a total of 13 bands so far. It looks like there are 16 other 6a varsity bands competing at Region 27 on Saturday. Even if all of these bands get a 1, it looks like we’ll be seeing 5 bands to state from Area I. ChristopherRoden and ruben_f 2 Quote

Popular Post ChristopherRoden Posted October 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted October 21, 2022 I feel like the caliber of most likely finalist bands here is a lot more matched than in other areas which could make for some interesting results. Looking at BOA Conroe prelims results, Tompkins had rather high performance scores comfortably in finals, something that tends to be well rewarded at UIL shows. Now I know that BOA sheets and UIL sheets are different, hence why I'm focusing more on the performance captions. Similarly, at the Katy marching fest, JET won the music caption over bands like 7L, Friendswood and Jordan. And at the same contest, Jordan won the visual caption over those same groups. This show will be all about who puts out the most exciting, but more importantly, spotless and uniform show. There is no room for error and I know there are quite a few groups who are capable of taking one of those top (hopefully) 5 spots to state. With that being said I would say that Cy Fair and Bridgeland are the most likely groups to go to state, followed by Cy Woods, Seven Lakes and Jordan. However, upsets by JET, Tompkins, Katy, Cinco Ranch and Jersey Village are absolutely possible. Best of luck to all those performing this weekend at games, shows and region contests!!
