Exactly what Dawson did last year. Clear Brook & Brazoswood sound very similar to me, watching their UIL performance I could hear consistent individuals in their sound, that does not bode well for them. Pearland has easy music but a really intricate Visual package and should 100% win the Visual ordinals here they don’t sound bad but are top heavy. Dawson has the hardest music book at this contest as well as drill very similar to the 1990-2000 era of marching band in general, very exposed, mostly curved forms, very very hard to clean. Their 20th place finish at BOA Katy was out-of-left field and I still can’t really understand it. Dickinson is Very clean and sound Very good, however, they have one of the easiest shows here. Most of the marching is 4x4 blocks/forms that are very fundamental. No matter what happens Pearland should win. If the judges favor Cleanliness Dawson will be the most negatively effected, Dickinson will do very well. Overall this contest should be better judged then last year. Expand What about shadow creek? polargn Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 Clements musically sounds great but visually not so much. Maybe they can clean before area. It going to be a tight race for that last state spot Quote
TheJazzPad Posted October 25, 2022 Posted October 25, 2022 I haven't got to watch Shadow Creek in person but I've watched them on air. They seemed to have gotten a lot smaller this year, more visuals, choreography, and switches in their show can get them in the hunt this last week. It's another late charge by Clements, if I'm being honest, I wasn't sure if they were up to their very high music standards this year, but since watching their Katy performance, their music and visuals improved massively. Another thing I've noticed the size, I remember the length that this band used to take up on the field, to now almost 2 concert band sizes. But volume has not lacked for them. For a band with such a successful history, surprised they aren't getting much state talk in this forum. Cleanups in individuals and marching techniques can make the difference. I'm liking the colorgaurd changes in Dawson's show. I'm not here to make any predictions on results. tbone144 1 Quote

Expand I had figured. I have always known Dawson to have a nice balanced, rich, beautiful sound. I know Dickinson has created a reputation of marching VERY cleanly which should certainly be rewarded this cycle. Brazoswoods tends to perform tougher shows (thinking back especially to 2018) but this means they peak right at the end of the season. Clear Brook I found has a very fully fleshed out and coherent show. The uniforms, the props, the sound effects all make for a lot of consistency. The show idea and music isn't necessarily too unique but the electro theme is and they are performing it well! Quote
