bchorn Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 When I hear schools like Hebron and Vandergrift perform incredibly difficult music, I wonder how long the kids have been learning the music. I know the musicians at these schools and others like them are a better than average...but still...I can't imagine the kids got for the music for the first time at the beginning of summer band. Do they get their music at the end of the previous school year so that they can work on it throughout the summer? Quote
pancake Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 most of the big name schools get music before or throughout the summer so the kids have them learned and memorized by the time summer band starts Quote
aer06 Posted November 4, 2022 Posted November 4, 2022 Typically most schools learn their music near the end of the year or going into the summer to begin memorizing for camp, and others may learn music even earlier so they can do a preview performance leading into the summer Quote
An Inspirational Pinecone Posted November 6, 2022 Posted November 6, 2022 When I was at TWHS 16-19 we got like the first part and maybe a little extra in May and then learned the rest as the season went on. All music was learned by early to mid October, I'd say. It's probably much different now with access to online musical programs that allow directors to test their students not in person Quote
