so it looks like we'll likely be seeing Hoskins in brass tomorrow, Brooks in perc. Davis and Fugett id guess in either ens music or design, Wessels in woodwinds?? not sure about that one. one of the vis judges from today should return but Miller will join him as a new judge in either ens or ind vis. sooo mostly a new panel.

A bands effort is not devalued simply because you’re “tired” of seeing them in finals. They’re there for a reason. Fix your attitude.

Well I got 12/14 finalists right so yay for me lol. I couldn’t really figure out who be those last one or two. 
 

12 out of 14 of last year’s returning finalist returned to state and made finals, one of them was first out. So cool to see programs maintain such a high standard year to year.

I managed to get 10/14 guessed to make finals, I didn't guess Waxahachie, Cy-Fair, Bridgeland, or Keller. I always like to be proved wrong

My only surprise was no CTJ. I felt the returning finalists were killing it this year so I had them all coming back to finals. When I first saw Bridgeland’s show I thought “wow this is so good” there was something special about their performance but I just didn’t realize it was THAT good this year.

Bridgeland parent here. Today was a relatively bad run for us. I'm hoping for improvement tomorrow and at the same time am humbled that we made it in when the field is so crowded with superstars.

CTJ was robbed of finals. If you followed this thread earlier in the day, you would have seen comments of Waxahachie being disqualified for exceeding the time limit. It was decided that they would not be disqualified or penalized in any way by a panel. Even though the UIL rules state - as listed under Section 1105 shall apply to the state marching band contest with the following exception: Any Band that leaves the field in less than five minutes or fails to complete its performance in eight minutes shall be disqualified.

they have used this rule to disqualify programs in the last 10 years that I have been involved with UIL.

I am not saying that Waxahachie should be excluded after they were announced as a finalist - but if you are going to ignore your own rule, to make concessions for them you should also make concessions for CTJ and add a 15th finalist to the event.

at the end of the day, if you have a rule, it needs to be enforced or done away with.

I have no horse in this race but I completely agree. Why teach students that standards and regulations are okay to break when the stakes are higher? UIL, remove the rule OR enforce the rule.

I 1000th% concur.  Rules are rules and can't pick and choose when to apply them especially when it's black and white. 

I most definitely agree ! Only way to fix it is add 15th to finals and go back to enforcing this rule immediately!

It was mentioned by a waxahachie parent/member that UIL supposedly allows for a margin of error within 2-3 seconds. Supposedly, waxahachie was just under those two seconds, allowing for them to remain in the competition. If that's true, it's probably an unspoken clause that UIL doesn't mention to avoid abuse or it's a case by case basis dependent on how the higher ups are feeling that day. I'm not sure where you're idea of "adding CTJ to finals as 15th place" is coming from. Adding a finalist spot and keeping a band who went 2 seconds over are very different magnitudes. Waxahachie performed well, many saw them as a finalist lock.

Respectfully, and or course my own opinion, CTJ not making finals isn't very shocking. Their show and their performance is good but this entire season it felt like a strong performance from another band could knock them over, and that's what seemed to happen. Plus, UIL doesn't seem to favor their show style, we can see this from previous year results. They cut a minute or so away to preshow because the show is made for a BOA circuit.

I'll also add that in years past, they have been lax at the state competitions when it comes to time. 

It isn't helpful to the kids for us fans to say that anyone was ROBBED. We aren't the judges. We also don't know what happened behind the scenes. For all we know, the clock at the dome was off and all the fodder about Waxahatchie being DQ'ed was just that..fodder.
 

Congrats to all those bands who made finals. Way to go CTJ, Westwood with very little rest, and Dripping Springs for repping Area D so very well by being the next bands out. I have no doubt that they will work even harder this week to be ready for BOA on Friday.

I feel like with Vandegrift performing first, a lot of amazing programs back to back in the top half, and Marcus having a performance time closer to the end we could see Marcus win another 6A gold medal!

Marcus actually won Gold in 2006 … and 2008 … and 2010 … and  2012 … and 2014.

CON- Content. What you do.

ACV- Achievement. How well you do it.

6A didn’t exist until 2014 - their first 4 titles were 5A. The final one was 6A. So they always won the largest class. 🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇

It's probably been asked a hundred times but- will it be the same set of judges for finals? I'm curious how it'll affect finals results 😗 some of these are some crazy placements
