nah it's always been that way. They just haven't reached a point of relevancy, though jba was certainly on their way.

i want to agree, but it's only three schools this time. i know san benito wants to reach the point that they've been at before.  weslaco and psja have risen to recent success. hanna probably has the most well rounded music program in south texas. the laredo bands kind of caught fire when the valley was on a downswing, but now it really feels like the field has evened out. not a knock on anyone (especially cause i was part of that fire lol) just trying to be objective as possible.

I saw a video of Alexander’s band and Hanna’s and so far, Hanna just looks and sounds cleaner and stronger… that being said, it is early in the season and Alexander always puts on a good show

I’m honestly extremely excited for what else is in store for this competition, I think it will be a lot closer than most realize

i can definitely see Hanna being more UIL oriented, and JBA more BOA. not bc they chose to be, but just seems to be the nature of their shows. that being said i take back my first draft of predictions, and agree Hanna will probably win it all.

i think when it’s less than 15 bands only 7 make finals.

At what time does Area G usually start?

With the growth of 5As in Area G, looks like 6 or 7 may go on. Seems like the right time for some new names to join the usual suspects

I do not really follow 5A groups in Area G, but that sounds insane! Who are the usual suspects?

It’s been consistently Roma, Pioneer, Sharyland, Rio and Lopez. I believe the past 10 yrs. Since the classification went from the 5A/4A to 6A/5A. With it expanding to potentially 7, definitely some opportunity there for some more great bands to represent Area G at 5A SMC

Does anyone happen to have a video of 2002 Harlingen Band Spiral Symmetry?

 

That has honestly been one of the best shows from our area!

this is my prediction for prelims, I tried my best looking for all of these shows and I watched the most recent of them. This prediction is assuming that everyone gets 1s at their evaluations. One thing I will say is that it will be a difficult task to judge some of these bands! The skill and level that these bands are at this early makes me really excited for the season. Let me know what you guys think!!!

Honestly, I’ve really liked Rivers’s shows these past couple of years! I really hope they get a chance to display themselves at finals

We are hitting the meat part of the season when shows are starting to gel and magic starts happening so there can be some big momentum towards the post season

I do strongly agree that there is a lack of South Texas band discussion, I feel as if it has always been this way, and as someone else said they haven’t reached that level of “relevancy” but as someone who typically discusses more about the bigger 6A Bands like Hebron, Vandegrift, Woodlands, Bridgeland, Seven lakes, Reagan, and CTJ. I’m going to make an effort to start looking at these smaller programs, and definitely checking out these areas.

I also feel it’s important that these programs know we recognize the hard work they are putting in, and that we aren’t ignoring them just because they’re smaller, we aren’t ignoring them at all. We know they exist and we know they’re there.
