DeadMascot Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 Is it just me or has there been a lack of South Texas Band discussion? Quote
DeadMascot Posted August 22, 2023 Author Posted August 22, 2023 Any extremely early predictions? Might be a whole different ball game now that it’s in Laredo Quote
J-Mike16 Posted August 22, 2023 Posted August 22, 2023 I still think JBA will dominate this Area, and I really want PSJA to go back to State. Josegjr and Dave609 2 Quote

DeadMascot Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 I saw a video of Alexander’s band and Hanna’s and so far, Hanna just looks and sounds cleaner and stronger… that being said, it is early in the season and Alexander always puts on a good show Quote
DeadMascot Posted August 27, 2023 Author Posted August 27, 2023 I’m honestly extremely excited for what else is in store for this competition, I think it will be a lot closer than most realize Quote

DeadMascot Posted September 5, 2023 Author Posted September 5, 2023 At what time does Area G usually start? Quote
riverdrums Posted September 6, 2023 Posted September 6, 2023 With the growth of 5As in Area G, looks like 6 or 7 may go on. Seems like the right time for some new names to join the usual suspects Quote

riverdrums Posted September 7, 2023 Posted September 7, 2023 It’s been consistently Roma, Pioneer, Sharyland, Rio and Lopez. I believe the past 10 yrs. Since the classification went from the 5A/4A to 6A/5A. With it expanding to potentially 7, definitely some opportunity there for some more great bands to represent Area G at 5A SMC Quote
Josegjr Posted September 16, 2023 Posted September 16, 2023 Random Area G question: Does anyone happen to have a video of 2002 Harlingen Band Spiral Symmetry? That has honestly been one of the best shows from our area! Quote
DeadMascot Posted September 17, 2023 Author Posted September 17, 2023 this is my prediction for prelims, I tried my best looking for all of these shows and I watched the most recent of them. This prediction is assuming that everyone gets 1s at their evaluations. One thing I will say is that it will be a difficult task to judge some of these bands! The skill and level that these bands are at this early makes me really excited for the season. Let me know what you guys think!!! 1. Alexander 2. Hanna 3. PSJA 4. United (Haven’t Seen) 5. Edinburg North 6. Weslaco (Haven’t Seen) 7. Harlingen (Haven’t Seen) 8. Los Fresnos 9. Edinburg 10. Mission ——————— 11. La Joya 12. Rivera 13. San Benito 14. Economedes 15. LBJ 16. United South Quote
riverdrums Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 That’s a strong prediction I think DeadMascot 1 Quote
DeadMascot Posted September 18, 2023 Author Posted September 18, 2023 Honestly, I’ve really liked Rivers’s shows these past couple of years! I really hope they get a chance to display themselves at finals Quote
riverdrums Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 We are hitting the meat part of the season when shows are starting to gel and magic starts happening so there can be some big momentum towards the post season Quote

Expand I do strongly agree that there is a lack of South Texas band discussion, I feel as if it has always been this way, and as someone else said they haven’t reached that level of “relevancy” but as someone who typically discusses more about the bigger 6A Bands like Hebron, Vandegrift, Woodlands, Bridgeland, Seven lakes, Reagan, and CTJ. I’m going to make an effort to start looking at these smaller programs, and definitely checking out these areas. Quote
Ranxh1938292 Posted September 18, 2023 Posted September 18, 2023 I also feel it’s important that these programs know we recognize the hard work they are putting in, and that we aren’t ignoring them just because they’re smaller, we aren’t ignoring them at all. We know they exist and we know they’re there. JazzRun 1 Quote
