With UIL contest's just around the corner, I thought it would be fun to bring back my favorite topic I have made for the last 3 years :). The UIL Area Contest's will be a fun one for sure as we will get to see every band try and advance on to the UIL State Marching Championships in San Antonio. Who do you think will advance on?

Predicting 5A Área C

1. Forney

2. Poteet

3. Red Oak

I’ve recently seen Poteet perform, and their show is very interesting, and definitely better than previous years. Very excited on how this Area will play out.

Yeah it definitely will look something like this. Forney will easily win once again, Poteet should be second unless North Mesquite returns to its former glory pre-Covid, but Red Oak and Pine Tree have also been on the rise recently

I'm going to have to hard disagree.  There is a reason a very high percentage of finalists at BOA competitions and UIL competitions overlap.  Great bands will succeed in either circuit.  I think your flawed reasoning comes from a mistake a lot of people make- that General Effect means Design.  General Effect is influenced by quality design, but only insomuch as a band performs what is given to them exceptionally.  But GE is in itself a measure of both execution and showmanship and will be influenced by the show's difficulty.  The top bands will be doing shows will lots of effect and will execute at a high level, so they tend to do well at both UIL and BOA.

I do think when it comes to smaller bands in UIL classes 4a or smaller, it isn't very practical to expect most bands to have the resources to develop a BOA style show and that's fine.  I'm not sure however where these bands that only do BOA and not UIL are that you mentioned?

I think some of this is true, though I think it also depends on the UIL Area you compete in too.  I can think of a few very recent examples where some finaling BOA bands advanced UIL Region/Area with strong scores and then got to State and then received extremely underwhelming Ensemble, Wind, or Brass scores. Depends on what the judges subjectively are looking for.

My predictions for 6A Area G:

1. Laredo United

2. Brownsville Homer Hanna

3. Laredo Alexander

I though I'd post this because nobody else in the state really talks about Area G.

This next Area had probably one of the most suprising results overall due to how well each band put on their performances and made it difficult for each judge to place them.
