whitewing09 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Ok so do any of yall have like other things then band. like in our band everyones either in Band and Athetics (Football, Volleyball, etc.) Band and Academic UIL(Informative speaking, Number sense, etc.) or Band and AG(Umm diary judging building some fence, etc.) are yalls bands like this too?? Aegis Fang Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 I play baseball =) I'm the only person in my band on the team... which is sad. I've got all my band hall humor, which a rare few people in baseball find amusing... so I'm all alone there... Quote
wilson07 Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 well, i'm also on yearbook staff and they all make fun of me for being in band and stuff but its all cool because the jokes that they make are really funny. but i'm not a big sports person Quote
viccro Posted February 8, 2006 Posted February 8, 2006 Academic UIL (Science and Math!) and Girl Scouts...make sure you've bought cookies from some scout in your area! Quote
Aegis Fang Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I tried having an argument with some of the guys on my team proving that band isn't for the faint of heart, and I realized... You have no idea how hard band is until you've done it. They think that band is for weak people, for those who weren't good enough to make it in athletics. And you cannot, CANNOT make them think otherwise, it is impossible. Quote
whitewing09 Posted February 9, 2006 Author Posted February 9, 2006 Well now that i think about it we did buy girl scout cookies. hahaha i havent aten them or w.e but theyre there. and about that thing band isnt really so easy. and thats dumb that people at your schools make fun of it. no one really makes fun of band at my school. actually now that i think about it the only people who do say stuff are the people that are actually in band, like we say to each other "wow your such a band queer" then someone else is like "Hey shut up your in band too" but its all for fun no one in sports says stuff about band. Our football team (Clemens) was first in the area going into the playoffs (anyone from madison, stay out of my thread =p), and yet the band, with our BEST performance of the year, got 46th out of 58(?). So our band sucks compared to our sports. But our athletes are powerfully full of themselves. Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 I do tennis and basketball. I am doing cross country and track next year though. Band will ALWAYS come first though. Quote
RMyers Posted February 9, 2006 Posted February 9, 2006 There is life after band. Granted not that good of one, but it is still there sort of. I'm also sitting in my office after work hours, posting on a Band related website, almost 5 years out of high school. But to be totally honest, I like the fact that I have become a spectator rather than a performer because: No hard work. I sit on my **** and just soak it in.(wishing I had some beer, and yes I would get tanked at BOA...but no streaking............till finals) While I was in band, I was some what active in my church youth group and various things here and there when I remembered when the club meetings were. Nine times out of ten I just didn't care. I knew what was ahead of me so I didn't need to pump up my collage applications nor a resume. Quote
Aegis Fang Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 streaking during a band competition... wow... I actually giggled a little and I just realized how odd that sounded. Band is still first in my heart, and won't be changing anytime soon. Quote
cinco_4_life811 Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 yeah this year im doing academic octathlon (academic competition w/8 events, hence the "octa" ) and next year im doing decathlon its really hard during marching season bc theres so much work to do, but now in concert season its not that bad n im planning on joining every other club i can (i.e. student council, national honor society, spanish honor society etc.) and of course continuing band so hopefully it'll look good on a college application Quote
whitewing09 Posted February 10, 2006 Author Posted February 10, 2006 yeah i cant do anything during marching season cuz the band hall is like a second home for everyone in my band hahaha. but concert season iss soooo boring so im doing Acedemic UIL(Mathematics,NumberSense,Calculator App) i really suck so far cuz umm i guess just cuz. but anyway streaking at a band competition.. WoW thats just beyond wow Quote
RMyers Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 Come on! Don't think I'm that odd. It's original. And I could add that to my book of idiotic things that I have done in my life, I've almost got a page now. And I'm prone to random thoughts Quote

Keyboard_Countessa Posted February 10, 2006 Posted February 10, 2006 I've been in Latin club for 3 years, but for the past 2 years we haven't had any real meetings. Last year I did some volunteer work at a wildlife rehabilitation. This year I'm on the newspaper, a decision that still astounds me today. Being in newspaper means I have to talk to people. People I don't know. I don't like talking to people I don't know. But on the upside I get first dibs on all the band-related stories. Quote
supermanuel Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 Debate, Habitat for Humanity, church and buttloads of other programs and stuff throughout the year Quote

artishard Posted February 11, 2006 Posted February 11, 2006 life outside of band? i guess...i go play volleyball or frisbee with some friends, eat food, sleep, watch movies...uh...life without band would be strange. i used to play select sports before i was in band, but then i quit everything for band. yay! Quote

ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Well, I'm in Student Council (Vice Prez), but most of our officers are in band, too. I'm also in National Honor Society, which has a TON of band kids in there..like 90% of the NHS members are in band. But our band is pretty diverse where activities are concerned- we have a varsity football player, 2 cheerleaders (last year we had 2 cheerleaders AND 2 mascots in band), volleyball girls, dance team member, and of course, the UIL Academic kids and BPA members. Speaking of BPA... like my friends are in it and they said at theyre regional meet there were so many geeks.they said"wow they look like the play dungeons and dragons all day" anyway so theyre all done and everyone around them is on a computer and my friends are all coloring pictures and in coloring books... ya depressing but hey they made it too state. dont know how that is relivent to this thread but thought id put it Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 15, 2006 Posted February 15, 2006 Our band is pretty diverse too. We have everyone from hard core nerds (not band nerds, like real nerds, lol) to goth people to Varsity Athletes. Quote
