ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 I have S&E on Saturday...hopefully my ensemble does well! I'm soo not going for memorization this year. My solo's a killer Quote
Aegis Fang Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 meh... here's my story. Last year, I got a 1 on a class 2 solo, beat the crap out of it. UIL rules say that if you get a 1 on a class 2 solo, you have to play a class 1 the next year. My problem is that right after region this year, my private instructor did an embouchure change on me, and it's really messing with my range. So I was stuck with a class 1, and I got a 4. Had I not made the change, I probably would've gotten a 1, but I'm not bitter over it, because I can tell the difference in my tone quality and other stuff =) Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Woot solo and ensemble tomorrow. Im reallly exited. I wish I was doing a solo though. Quote
Keyboard_Countessa Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 Since I got a 1 on my solo and it was memorized, I do qualify for All-State S&E. But when I talked to my band director about it, he basically said it might be more trouble than it's worth. Our band directors don't go, so if I did it I'd have to do everything on my own, including taking a marimba, bringing it back and everything in between. To put it simply, I'm not going. But good luck to anyone who is! Quote
sax5warrior Posted February 25, 2006 Posted February 25, 2006 I made to state with my solo and ensemble, the only one from 3rd band to make state. Should i feel happy, proud, what? Quote
TRtrumpet Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 DUDE CONGRATS! I made a one on both my trumpet trio and sax qartet today but they were both class 2 so im not going to state. Im still proud though. Quote
ClaireAnnette07 Posted February 26, 2006 Posted February 26, 2006 I'm going to state on Ensemble!! I also got a 1 on my class 1 clarinet solo but I didn't go for memorization because my solo was 3 pages long...too much to memorize! Quote

It's just so lame when you're in a really good band and sound like crap. Quote

iceeblue2 Posted March 5, 2006 Posted March 5, 2006 Dumb question alert!!! What does a "C" following your Div 1 rating mean at solo/ensemble? Quote
Dynasty Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Certified, which means you can advance to the state contest. Quote
iceeblue2 Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Are you required to know your music by memory for state? Thanx for the info! Quote
Moose Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Yes, I believe you do, unless it's an ensemble? Quote

G'townPIT Posted March 6, 2006 Posted March 6, 2006 Quote Are you required to know your music by memory for state? Yes, unless you have one of the virtuoso solos, which do not require any memorization. You can check here: http://www.uil.utexas.edu/music/pml_solos.html Quote
