All About Predictions
How it works
Each event we enter will show up on the main page. You can only create one set of predictions for each event, and once you create and finalize your list, you will not be able to change it. You can start adding your predictions as soon as the event appears until 2:00AM CST on the day of the event.
Scoring
One point is awarded for every place, including captions, that is correctly predicted. The points for the event are added to the users total score. You can see how many points were awarded for an event by clicking the "View Lists and Results" button any time after the results have been entered.
You also receive fractional points for "close calls" in your prediction list based on how far off you were in your list. For example, if you guess the first place school as 3rd place, you would still receive 0.50 points.
Placement Accuracy | Points Awarded |
---|---|
0 | 1.00 |
+/- 1 | 0.75 |
+/- 2 | 0.50 |
+/- 3 | 0.25 |
Correct Caption Winner | 1.00 |
Event Popularity Weighting
Based on how popular an event is relative to all other prediction events for the season, a weighting system is applied to the scores of each user's prediction lists. The event popularity weight is calculated by dividing the number of prediction lists submitted for that event by the average number of prediction lists submitted across all events for the season. For example, if the average number of prediction lists per event is 100, but a particular event has 150 lists, all scores will be multiplied by 1.5. Conversely, if an event has less predictions than the average, the weight will be less than 1 and reduce the score.Weights are dynamic throughout the season and may change even after an event has completed. You can find the weight in the "View Lists and Results" section of each event as well as in the bottom right corner in the event listing.
